SYNOPSIS What does the re-greening of Antarctica mean for seemingly distant places like Mexico? The Stride of Lichen tells the story of Antarctic glacial ice, its encounter with the sea, the advance of lichen and moss, and its connection to an Indigenous community on the Mexican coast that has been erased to the point of existing only in memories.
Tania Ximena
Visual artist and filmmaker. Her work is the result of lengthy field investigations. She is currently a National System of Art Creators Mexico fellow. She has been part of film seminars and workshops such as the Natural Actors Directing Seminar by Víctor Gaviria. She has received several awards and fellowships. Her first feature film, the documentary-fiction hybrid
White Night - Pobo Tzu, made in
2021, explores the collective effort of an indigenous community to unearth their old hometown, buried by the eruption of the Chichonal volcano in 1982. It was screened by several international film festivals and won prizes such as the Grand Jury Prize Kaleidoscope at DOC NYC and the Critics Award at Ficunam. She was part of the X Colombian Antarctic Expedition.
