Biography
Graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Marcelo Piñeyro (Buenos Aires, 1953) made his film direction debut with Tango feroz (1993), which was followed by Caballos salvajes (1995), Cenizas del paraíso (1997), Plata quemada (2000), Kamchatka (2002), El método (2005), Las viudas de los jueves (2009), Ismael (2013) and, more recently, the miniseries El Reino (2021) and its second season (2023).

He has received many awards and recognitions worldwide at various festivals such as San Sebastián, Sundance and Rome. He took part in the Venice, Berlin and Toronto festivals with several of his films. He was awarded with the Emerging Masters Awards by the Seattle International Festival and was the winner of three Goya Awards given by the Spanish Film Academy and recognised with the Sur Award from the Argentine Academy. He was the executive producer of La historia oficial (1985), the Oscar-winning film from the Hollywood Academy.
