SYNOPSIS Haunted by the corruption and catastrophe of his work as a loss adjuster, Pedro searches for solace in the contemporary art world, only to find it just as deceitful, plunging into an identity crisis as both realms blur.
Miguel Calderón
He is a pivotal figure in Mexico’s independent art scene of the 1990s. His multidisciplinary work examines power dynamics in family relationships and societal groups, creating satirical yet respectful portraits of marginalized figures within rigid class hierarchies. His art blurs the line between reality and fiction, often reflecting on humanity’s macabre complexity with humor, critique, and raw emotion. Using diverse media—film, video, photography, sculpture, and painting—he draws from vernacular references. His work has been exhibited at Museo Tamayo, Museo Reina Sofía, São Paulo Biennial, and more. Awards include the CIFO Grant (2013), MacArthur Fellowship (2000), and Rockefeller Fellowship (1995).
