'Oca', a young nun’s inner journey, comes to the Zonazine section of the 29th Festival de Málaga
The co-production between Mexico, Argentina and Spain was directed by Karla Badillo and stars actress Cecilia Suárez

The Festival de Málaga today hosted the presentation of Oca the new film by Mexican director Karla Badillo, as part of the Zonazine section. The film is a co-production between Mexico, Argentina and Spain, starring actress Cecilia Suárez.

It proposes an intimate and symbolic journey through the story of Rafaela, a young nun belonging to a precarious and almost extinct congregation. An incomplete and recurring dream has been haunting her mind for some time now. When she is sent to a nearby village in search of the new archbishop, the journey becomes an experience full of unexpected encounters that will lead her to question her destiny and to move forward —or backward— on her own spiritual path.

With Oca, Karla Badillo continues to consolidate a film career marked by a personal and poetic view. Director, producer and screenwriter, Badillo has directed the short films Sin regresos (No Returns, 2019), selected at the Guadalajara International Film Festival and winner of the Best Short Film directed by a woman at GIFF, and Oasis (2018), awarded at the Mexico Fashion Film Festival. As a producer, her work has featured in major international festivals including Cannes and San Sebastian.

The screening of Oca at Zonazine reaffirms the Festival de Málaga's commitment to new voices in Ibero-American cinema and to proposals that explore risky narratives and arthouse perspectives.
