From 26 November to 2 December 2026, Buenos Aires and Montevideo will be hosting the third edition of MASS, a showcase featuring six Spanish-produced films that were part of recent editions of the Festival de Málaga and the San Sebastián Film Festival. The initiative is supported by Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) through its strategic programme for the internationalisation of culture, and by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, via the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA). Admission to all screenings is free, subject to venue capacity.
In the Argentine capital, screenings will take place at the 25 de Mayo Cultural Centre, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires and the Argentine Academy of Cinematography Arts and Sciences. In Montevideo, the initiative will be supported by the Film and Audiovisual Agency of Uruguay (ACAU) and the Spanish Cultural Centre in Montevideo. The screenings will be held at the Cinemateca Uruguaya, which will also host two round-table discussions - details of which will be announced shortly.
MASS will begin in Buenos Aires from 26 to 28 November and will continue in Montevideo from 30 November to 2 December, as part of Ventana Sur 2026. José Luis Rebordinos and Juan Antonio Vigar, the directors of the San Sebastián and Málaga festivals, respectively, will lead the Spanish delegation. They will be joined by members of the films' production teams, who will present the works to the audience and take part in discussions following the screenings.
Representing the San Sebastián Festival, filmmaker Javier Ruiz Caldera will present the film 5 minutos más, which competed in the Official Selection and earned Javier Cámara the Silver Shell for Best Supporting Performance. Javier Giner, who participated in the New Directors section with Esta soledad, will showcase his feature-film debut alongside Marina Salas. Rounding off the selection from San Sebastián is Jaleos, a non-fiction film by Isaki Lacuesta that offers a unique perspective on the world of flamenco.
The programme associated with the Festival de Málaga includes the film that won the Biznaga de Oro for Best Spanish Film, Yo no moriré de amor. Its director, first-time feature filmmaker Marta Matute, will participate in MASS alongside Júlia Mascort, who won the Biznaga de Plata for Best Actress. After winning the Teddy Award at the Berlin Film Festival, Iván & Hadoum, directed by Ian de la Rosa, received the Special Jury Prize and the Biznaga de Plata for Best Screenplay at the Málaga Festival, as well as a Special Jury Mention for actor Silver Chicón, who will accompany the director to the screenings. Filmmaker Marta Díaz de Lope Díaz and actress Sofía de Iznájar will present Pioneras. Solo querían jugar, which received the Audience Award in Málaga.
MASS is part of an ongoing effort to promote the international circulation of Spanish cinema and to bring its new voices and creative visions to audiences in other regions. In its third edition, this initiative once again fosters connections between film industries and professionals from both sides of the Atlantic, while helping to showcase, in Argentina and Uruguay, films that stand out for the diversity of their perspectives, genres and storytelling approaches.
