Festival de Málaga has launched the call for the MaF 2027 open programme, which advocates a new Enlightenment for this century
Festival de Málaga will fill the city with culture and artistic creativity from 4 to 25 February, leading up to the 30th anniversary of the film festival
The 30th edition of the Festival de Málaga, which will take place from 26 February to 7 March 2027, will be preceded by another special milestone: the 15th edition of its expanded programme, Málaga de Festival – MaF, which seeks to celebrate culture through the medium of film. MaF - Málaga de Festival is organised by Malaga City Council through the municipal company Málaga Procultura (organiser of the Festival de Málaga) and is once again supported by the "la Caixa" Foundation.
MaF - Málaga de Festival is made up of two areas: the open programme, which is based on the proposals received through a call for proposals, provided they meet the selection criteria; and the permanent programme, curated by the organisation itself in accordance with the areas of discourse proposed for each edition and based on collaborations with public and private entities in the city.
The call for the Festival de Málaga – MaF open programme is open until 25 September. This open programme aims to stimulate the arts scene in the city of Malaga and raise the profile of outstanding professionals in the cultural sector. Furthermore, as it has been doing since the 2021 edition, one of the pillars of this open programme is to promote collaborations with national creators in order to generate links that go beyond the city itself. The rules of the call for proposals can be found on the Festival de Málaga website, in the 'Rules of participation' tab.
The projects received will be examined by a selection committee and, if accepted, will become part of the open programme of MaF 2027. These initiatives will be supported by the significant dissemination and promotion capacity of the Festival de Málaga, as well as, in specific cases, with financial, logistical and/or technical support to carry them out.
The proposals must offer new avenues of dialogue with current cultural and artistic action that allow new meanings to be found around audiovisual creation thanks to an alliance with the disciplines that make up MaF 2027 (Sound Art, Visual Arts, Science, Film, Exhibitions, Thought and Tech).
Proposals must relate to the thematic focus of MaF 2027, ‘Towards a New Enlightenment’, which invites reflection on the relevance of the Enlightenment legacy in contemporary society. Faced with the rise of anti-democratic movements that challenge rights, freedoms and knowledge, MaF 2027 reaffirms the principles that drove the Enlightenment: reason, science, culture and education as tools for improving people’s lives and fostering collective progress.
Through its expanded programme, Festival de Málaga aims to uphold democracy, human rights, critical thinking and freedom, and to make public and pluralistic culture a space for encounter, knowledge and emancipation.
