Repsol will be the official sponsor of the 27th edition of the Malaga Festival as a multi-energy partner of the event
Malaga Procultura reinforces its commitment to sustainability with an agreement that also includes measures for Cine Abierto

The Malaga Festival and Repsol have signed an agreement that makes the energy company an official sponsor of the event for the 27th edition of the Malaga Festival (from the 1st to the 10th of March 2024), as a Multi-Energy Partner. This agreement, which also includes Cine Abierto, was presented this morning at a press conference by the Mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, and Repsol's General Manager for Clients, Valero Marín. Also present was the Manager of Malaga Procultura and the Festival's Director, Juan Antonio Vigar.

Malaga Procultura, the municipal company organising the Malaga Festival, reinforces its commitment to sustainability, a transversal objective of its action that permeates all its management and planning, which is reinforced with this agreement with Repsol as a strategic partner.

One of the pillars of the Malaga Festival is its commitment to environmental sustainability, and in this respect it is a benchmark among national and international film events. This strategy has already been implemented in the last two editions and continues in 2024 with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and proposing actions for continuous improvement in terms of environmental sustainability.

In its 25th edition, the Festival laid the grounds for a roadmap that has made it possible to reduce and track the evolution of greenhouse gas emissions generated directly and indirectly during the event. These measures include the prioritisation of train transport; transport in high occupancy cars for transport; the choice of hybrid and electric cars for guests travelling within the city; accommodation in hotels with sustainability certification, and the prioritisation of menus with local products (Zero Km); the choice of flights for guests according to the level of associated GHG emissions, prioritising those with lower levels, as well as the reduction of merchandising, choosing products made from 100% organic materials.

Now, after signing this strategic partnership with Repsol, Malaga Festival will implement other measures and solutions to reinforce its commitment to sustainability. Thus, Repsol's joining as a multi-energy partner allows a qualitative leap in the reduction of emissions at this year's Festival. Therefore, Repsol will provide alternatives to make the Festival's transport sustainable.

In this respect, renewable fuels and electric mobility have been selected to meet each of the Festival's requirements. Renewable fuels are those that are produced from renewable raw materials. Specifically, the 100% renewable diesel, which will be used by the fleets of official vehicles and bus transfers, has been made from organic waste such as used cooking oils and agricultural waste and forest residues that are not destined for food. In addition, Repsol will provide the Festival's fleet of electric and plug-in hybrid cars with its entire public recharging network in the city of Malaga. It consists of twenty-two points installed and operational, and will set up two additional portable points in Plaza de la Merced.

The Festival has also been supported by Green Globe Sostenibilidad y Proyectos Ambientales, a leading sustainability and climate change consultancy, and has been certified by AENOR. Therefore, those CO2 emissions that cannot be avoided due to the Festival's own operations will be compensated by regulated means.
