The Malaga Festival opens the call for MERCADOC.0, a new space for innovation in Ibero-American documentaries within its MAFIZ industry area
The event, organised with Culturia with funding from the Ministry of Culture and the European Union - Next GenerationEU, will take place from 18 to 21 March

The Malaga Festival and Culturia present MERCADOC.0, a space designed to promote the artistic, financial and innovative development of Ibero-American documentary projects in order to identify opportunities in areas such as co-production, distribution and new business models on an international level. The event will take place from 18 to 21 March within the MAFIZ Industry area of the 28th Malaga Festival and positions the event as a strategic point for the Ibero-American documentary industry, bringing together leading professionals from the sector and new agents such as journalistic media, digital platforms and television channels.

Focused on promoting innovation in business and production models for documentaries with international co-production potential, MERCADOC.0 offers personalised training and coaching to directors and production companies in the creative, economic and financial areas to create viable, quality audiovisual projects that facilitate their insertion in the international market.

The call is open until 14 February to documentary projects in development in the following genres: Auteur Documentary, Social Media Documentary, Docu-Reality and Investigative Documentary. Legal entities incorporated as production companies in Spain, Portugal and any Latin American country may participate. Registration is free of charge. To participate in the selection process, it is necessary to complete the online form on the MAFIZ website and attach the background and information relevant to the development stage of audiovisual projects: treatment, dossier, financial plan, budget, etc.

The projects selected in this call will include a programme designed to strengthen, connect and promote the audiovisual content of the professional teams involved, which will participate in the following activities:

  • Mentoring, workshops and master classes: focused on the development of the key aspects of each project, such as the creative area, audiences, production and distribution. One of the highlights of the event will be the exploration of business opportunities between the participating projects and new players in the documentary industry such as journalistic media, digital platforms and television networks.
  • MERCADOC.0 offers the professional teams of the selected projects a space to connect with different agents of the global audiovisual industry.

In addition, all selected projects will become part of an international promotional catalogue that MAFIZ has created to promote the content and professional teams, in order to make the search for funding easier and make new content known to industry agents and audiences interested in Ibero-American cinema. The selected projects will also have access to financial endowment to facilitate their participation.
