The Dominican Republic is the protagonist of Latin American Focus and will present its filming incentives, locations and talent
The Deputy Minister of Creativity and Popular Participation of the Ministry of Culture, Amaury Sánchez, will receive the Silver Biznaga from the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, on 20 March

The Dominican Republic is the protagonist of Latin American Focus of  MAFIZ, the industry area of the Festival de Málaga, which aims to foster collaboration between the guest country's audiovisual sector and the European audiovisual sector, thereby promoting co-production and the circulation of content.
 
In recognition of the country being honoured, the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, Mayor of Malaga, will present the Deputy Minister of Creativity and Popular Participation of the Ministry of Culture, Amaury Sánchez, with the Silver Biznaga on 20 March.
 
On 18 March, the talk "Marca País" is scheduled to take place, during which the facilities that the Caribbean country offers to international filming, from competitive tax incentives to a high level of training for local technical personnel, will be explained and the island's locations will be showcased.
 
In addition, the Festival de Málaga will be a showcase for the Dominican Republic to make its filmmakers known to the public and the international industry. Therefore, Sugar Island, by Johanné Gómez Terrero (2024) will compete in the Feature films Official Competition, and Olivia y las nubes, by Tomás Pichardo Espaillat (2024) will compete in Zonazine.
 
The different sections of MAFIZ will also have a large presence of Dominican Republic productions and professionals: in Mercadoc.0 the project El Último Relato / The Untold Story, by Isabella Bretón Bonilla will be presented; in MAFF El Gagá de la ceja, by Jeissy Trompiz and Maguana Racing, by Juliano Kunnert; the producers Roberta Seravalle and Patricia Pepén will participate in Wami Lab; in Málaga WIP the films in post-production phase Fragancia tropical / Tropical Fragance, by Alexander Viola and Primu, by Taba Blanchard will be shown while MAFIZ Specials will dedicate a session to the guest country; and Anette Guillén will be the young content creator who will participate in Hack Málaga.
 
Finally, the Festival de Málaga has included the Focus Dominican Republic cycle in its programme, which includes three recent productions from the Caribbean country: Tiguere, by José María Cabral (2024); Pérez Rodríguez, by Humberto Tavárez (2024) and El día de la tormenta, by Alexander Viola (2024).
 
 Latin American Focus is organised by the Festival de Málaga in collaboration with the Dominican Republic Film Commission (DGCINE).
