'La guitarra flamenca de Yerai Cortés', an intimate portrait of the new flamenco generation at the Festival de Málaga
Antón Álvarez (C. Tangana) makes his directorial debut with a documentary about the virtuoso guitarist, exploring his art and his family legacy.
The Festival de Málaga presented this Friday 14 March at the Echegaray Theatre the screening of 'La guitarra flamenca de Yerai Cortés', the debut film by Antón Álvarez, better known as C. Tangana in his musical facet. This documentary, part of the Documentales Pases Especiales section, explores the flamenco heritage, the evolution of the genre and a family secret that is revealed throughout the film.
In his first feature film, Antón Álvarez transfers his particular artistic vision to cinema with a story that revolves around Yerai Cortés, one of the most talented figures of the new generation of flamenco guitarists.
Internationally recognised for his musical career, Antón Álvarez has revolutionised the industry with his innovative style and ability to fuse genres. With the album "El Madrileño", he established himself as one of the most influential figures in contemporary music.
In 2023, he produced and starred in the documentary "Esta ambición desmedida", which followed his creative process and artistic evolution. In that production, he had already made a foretaste of his interest in cinema, without revealing that, at the same time, he was shooting his first feature film. This debut confirms his interest in visual narrative and his ability to translate his artistic sensibility to the big screen.
The presentation was attended by the film's producer Cris Trenas and the singer and actress La Tania. Both have expressed their excitement at being able to present the documentary in Malaga. Trenas joked about the absence of the director: "We are very happy that they have left us alone to talk about the film." He went on to say that this evening was very special, as it was "the end of the festival tour of Spain."
After its screening at the Festival de Málaga, 'La guitarra flamenca de Yerai Cortés' will be distributed in cinemas by A Contracorriente Films and will reach the international circuit through Latido Films.
