María Ripoll premieres 'También esto pasará', a romantic comedy about grief, starring Susi Sánchez and Marina Salas.
The director of 'Ahora o nunca' and 'Vivir dos veces' presents her latest film based on the acclaimed novel of the same name by Milena Busquets at the Festival de Málaga.

The plot of María Ripoll's new film begins with the death of Blanca's mother, just as she turns forty. To escape her grief, she finds refuge in sex, with lovers, ex-husbands and any other casual liaison that will make her forget her mother's death. Unable to put her adult life in order, Blanca decides to travel to her mother's house in the small fishing village of Cadaqués.

With this premise, Ripoll returns to the Festival de Málaga with 'También esto pasará', a romantic comedy that deals with grief with freshness and humour. The film recovers the novel of the same name by the writer and journalist Milena Busquets, published in 2015, in a story where the protagonist faces the difficulties of adulthood through humour.

On the second day of screenings in the Official Selection Out of Competition, the film was presented by the director together with the actress and star of the film, Marina Salas, as a reflection of the dissipated life of an adult who finds refuge in the family home to deal with the grief of a loss. The film, with an ensemble cast including Carlos Cuevas, Susi Sánchez, Borja Espinosa and Carles Francino, presents a sincere and light-hearted look at maturity and the need to find oneself.

During the colloquium following the official screening of the film, the director shared with the audience the challenge of adapting the literary voice of Milena Busquets to the big screen, a process in which the writer was actively involved. The author visited the set and made a great connection with Marina Salas, who prepared for the role by exploring the complexity of grief and the flight from grief.

Regarding the interpretative challenges, Marina Salas emphasised that her character faces grief in an unconventional way: avoiding it through flight and lack of control. For the actress, it was interesting to explore this imperfect way of dealing with loss. The actress added that what attracted her to the acting journey was the transformation process of the protagonist, "a woman who does not fit into the traditional roles of mother, daughter or lover, but who, through her pain, manages to find herself again."

The film's cinematography and art direction have been highly praised by the director, who considers them fundamental elements "in conveying the essence of the novel and building the aesthetic atmosphere of the film."

In the musical section, 'También esto pasar' has an original composition by María Rodés. Ripoll highlighted the importance of the soundtrack in accompanying the tone of the film, as well as the decision to include Milena Busquets' voice-over , which has contributed to the emotional weight of the story.

The producers Juan Gordon, Eva Cebrián and Belén Sánchez, who accompanied María Ripoll at the presentation, highlighted the privilege of seeing the film on the big screen, underlining the value of "betting on projects that, although not designed for the general public, have a strong emotional and narrative charge." They agree that it is a solid drama, able to connect with the audience, whether they have read the original novel or not. Eva Cebrián also reaffirmed what Juan Gordon said about the filming process and expressed her enthusiasm for reading La dulce existencia, the work in which Milena Busquets recounts her experiences during the filming.

The film, which was shot in Cadaqués, Barcelona and other Catalan locations, is a production with the participation of RTVE and Amazon Prime Video. A Contracorriente Films will release the film in cinemas on 9 May.
