Festival de Málaga opens registration for its 29th edition, to be held from 6 to 15 March 2026
The event creates the new section America, America, to give visibility to the wealth and diversity of films from indigenous and rural communities on the American continent
Festival de Málaga, organised by
Malaga City Council through the company Málaga Procultura, today opens the
registration period
for films interested in participating in its
29th edition, to be held from
6 to 15 March 2026. Full
participation rules can be consulted on the Festival's website and films must register on the
Festhome platform.
The official competition of the 29th edition is open to feature-length films produced in Spain and throughout Ibero-America, including Portugal and Brazil, in the Official Feature Films, ZonaZine, Documentaries, Cinema Cocina and Documentary Short Films sections. The Fiction Short Film category is restricted to Spanish productions, divided into: Official section for fiction or animation short films and Official section for Malaga short films (for those born or resident in Malaga or whose production company is based in the province of Malaga).
This year, the Festival includes the
new section America, America for feature films of any genre that showcase the cultural wealth and diversity of indigenous and rural communities in the Americas. This section will not compete and will consist of a maximum of four films.
As for
prizes in the different categories, the Official Competition will award two Biznagas de Oro to the best Spanish and Ibero-American film respectively, each worth 8,000 euros. ZonaZine will also award two Biznagas for the best film, with a prize of 4,000 euros each, while in the documentary category there will be a prize of 4,000 euros. In Cinema Cocina there is a prize of 4,000 euros for the best feature film and 2,000 euros for the best short film.
The Biznagas de Plata for the Official Fiction Short Film Competition to the Best Documentary Short Film and the Best Animazine Short Film are awarded 2,000 euros. In the Short Films Málaga section, the Biznaga de Plata will be awarded to the best short film, worth 2,000 euros.
In the Mosaico: International Scene section, there will be an Audience Award of 8,000 euros for the distributor in Spain of the most voted feature film in the section.
The America, America section will give 2,000 euros to the respective production companies of each of the selected films as a contribution to production costs and to the promotion of future audiovisual projects of similar characteristics.
Registration ends on the following dates:
8 November 2025 for feature documentaries, fiction short films, animation and documentaries; Cinema Cocina feature and short films and feature films in the America, America Section; and
15 December 2025 for Official Competition and ZonaZine feature films.
