Festival de Málaga opens up to Ibero-American short films with the new Ibershorts Award
More than 30 competitions from 20 countries will participate in this initiative at the 29th edition of the festival in collaboration with Festhome
Festival de Málaga, organised by
Malaga City Council through the company Málaga Procultura, has created the new
Iberoshorts Award to be held for the first time at the
29th edition from
6 to 15 March 2026. Full participation rules can be consulted on the Festival's website and films must register on the
Festhome platform by 30 November.
Ibershorts is an initiative of the Festival de Málaga,
in alliance with Festhome, aimed at promoting and giving visibility to Ibero-American fiction and animation short films. This new award, which will be included in the event’s official programme, aims to recognise the quality and diversity of short films produced in Ibero-American countries (including Portugal and excluding Spain).
Festival de Málaga thus fully embraces Ibero-American audiovisuals by partnering up with other festivals with a firm commitment to short films and influence in the sector of this genre, which become part of the network of qualifying festivals for this initiative to promote Ibero-American fiction and animation short films and generate new opportunities for their creators.
A total of 29 festivals from 20 countries have joined the call for entries. They must register up to two award-winning short films from their most recent edition (the jury winner and the audience winner, or equivalent), which will be automatically eligible together with other winning short films from other festivals. A joint committee, appointed by Festival de Málaga and Festhome, will select five finalists to be screened during the 29th edition of Festival de Málaga.
The
winner of the Ibershorts Award will receive the Biznaga de Plata for Best Ibero-American Fiction Short Film 2025. This award will be included ceremony for Short Film Awards at Festival de Málaga. The five selected short films will also take part in Málaga Short Corner, an initiative included in MAFIZ / Spanish Screenings Content where they can take part in different industry activities as well as screenings.
