Festival de Málaga and San Diego Comic-Con Málaga sign a collaboration agreement to create synergies in the field of series
The Play One Series section will share content and activities at the two major cultural events

Festival de Málaga and San Diego Comic-Con Málaga have signed a collaboration agreement that aims to jointly promote content and activities in the field of series, reinforcing Malaga's position as a national and international audiovisual and cultural reference point. This agreement was presented today at an event attended by the Mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre; Councillor for Culture and Historical Heritage, Mariana Pineda; Councillor for Innovation, Digitalisation and Investment, Alicia Izquierdo; Director of the Festival de Málaga, Juan Antonio Vigar; and Gabriel Sáenz de Buruaga, sole director of San Diego Comic-Con Málaga.

With this partnership, both events seek to take advantage of the growing relevance of series as a driving force in the audiovisual industry and as a space for narrative innovation. The agreement will enable synergies between these two cultural events in the city through the Play One Series section, which will focus on scheduling premières, meetings with creators and activities aimed at both professionals and the general public.

The Mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, has said that this union represents a strategic boost for Malaga as an audiovisual city, consolidating its role as a hub with regard to the industry and creation at national and international level. "This alliance reinforces Malaga's position as an epicentre of audiovisual creation, exhibition and debate. The union of two leading events consolidates the city as a meeting point for professionals, creators and the public," he said.

Gabriel Sáenz de Buruaga, sole director of San Diego Comic-Con Málaga, pointed out that this three-year agreement is a natural step. “ As a cultural event we have to add as much effort as possible. Joining forces with th Festival de málaga team and its almost 30 years of experience enables us to offer fans a better experience”.

The director of Festival de Málaga, Juan Antonio Vigar, stressed that "this agreement allows us to broaden our horizons and strengthen our commitment to series, a format that is now essential in audiovisual culture and that connects with new audiences and generations. The aim is to open a unique space to bring fans and film-lovers together, integrating comics, series and cinema, in order to increase their reach. Both Festival de Málaga and San Diego Comic-Con Málaga understand series as a space for creative innovation and great social impact".

The collaborative Play One Series section starts today as part of the San Diego Comic-Con Málaga schedule with a panel held today, Friday, at 8.30 pm in Auditorium 1 on 'How to build a fantasy world in film/TV' with David Ramos, VFX supervisor with over 25 years of experience in the industry. He has participated in emblematic productions such as El día de la bestia, A Monster Calls, Game of Thrones, The Three-Body Problem, and Shadow and Bone. He has received numerous awards, including an Emmy, a VES and an HPA.

In this panel he will unveil the secrets behind the creation of fantasy universes on screen, exploring how post-production transforms imagined ideas into visual realities, combining effects, design and narrative to build worlds that exist only in the mind... until they appear on screen.
