The Festival de Málaga opens ‘Fuera de plano’ (Off-Screen), the photography exhibition by Amparo García
From 6 to 15 March, Calle Larios will host a street exhibition featuring unique moments captured during the last edition of the festival.
The 29th Festival de Málaga, organised by Malaga City Council through Malaga Procultura, opened its first day with ‘Fuera de plano’ (Off-Screen), an exhibition of photographs by Amparo García from Jaén, which will be on display on Calle Larios until 15 March.
The opening was attended by the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre; the Councillor for Culture and Historical Heritage of Málaga City Council, Mariana Pineda; the Director of the Festival de Málaga, Juan Antonio Vigar, and the photographer Amparo García.
The exhibition consists in 79 photographs displayed along Calle Larios to Calle Constitución. The Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, has said that this is the "best space in the city" to hold an exhibition, and that the city welcomes the Festival "in spite of the high-speed transport problems".
They are all photographs taken at last year's Festival de Málaga, where the viewer is drawn into the event through unique moments such as watching the actors jumping on the bed, putting on their make-up and getting dressed up, sharing a knowing glance with them. The aim of these photographs is to reveal the most human and genuine side of the actor, away from the character and the cameras. "What I want my photography to emphasise is accessibility. I had the opportunity to experience it and I want to share those moments with the people of Malaga," said García. According to the author, artists such as Carmen Machi, Carolina Yuste and Miguel Ángel Silvestre were very approachable, and she spent some "very pleasant" moments with them.
Born in the early 2000s, Amparo García began her career as a photojournalist, collaborating with various media outlets such as El Español and El Confidencial; later, she served as Head of Photography and Graphic Design for Málaga City Council, where she won the National Political Photography Award. She is currently content manager and tour photographer for the Málaga-born singer-songwriter El Kanka.
