Maigret et le mort amoreux, the French thriller by Pascual Bonitzer, comes to the Mosaico section of the 29th Festival de Málaga
The feature film's premiere for Spanish audiences took place at the Echegaray Theatre

The Mosaico: International Scene section of the 29th edition of the  Festival de Málaga kicks off with the screening of Maigret et le mort amoureux (Maigret and the Dead Lover), the crime thriller by French director Pascual Bonitzer.

Bonitzer participated in the discussion following the screening. The director and screenwriter, who also appears on screen, explained that the novel that inspired the film was written by Georges Simenon after he experienced a personal crisis due to feeling old, unlike Bonitzer, who feels young. He confessed that he was eager to give the story a twist.

The director stated that he wanted to show the opposite of this kind of "trend" that is emerging and the "hysteria of thrillers" and the scenes in the current film landscape. He also explained that the differences between the main character and his companion are intentional, to show them as opposites.

This crime and mystery film tells the story of Commissioner Jules Maigret (Denis Podalydès), who is urgently summoned to the Quai d'Orsay to investigate the murder of former ambassador Monsieur Berthier-Lagès, whom he had served for almost fifty years. He is accompanied by Inspector Janvier (Manuel Guillot).

Maigret, as Bonitzer explains, is a character he "wanted to situate more firmly in the 21st century", and even to create a dialogue between different centuries, given the way the protagonist acts. Maigret finds himself embroiled in a mystery connected to the clandestine love affair between the ambassador and the Princess of Vuynes, whose husband, by a strange coincidence, has also just died.

Following its screening at the Festival de Málaga, the feature film is scheduled to be released in Spanish cinemas on 27 March.
