Ángeles González-Sinde presents Después de Kim, an emotional thriller about grief, broken bonds and the possibility of rebuilding oneself
Competing in the Official Competition of the Festival de Málaga with an intimate story that combines suspense and emotional exploration of a couple marked by loss

The director Ángeles González-Sinde has presented her new feature film, Después de Kim (After Kim), an emotional thriller and investigative drama about grief, broken ties and the possibility of rebuilding oneself, which is competing in the Official Competition of the Festival de Málaga.

At a press conference, together with actors Adriana Ozores and Darío Grandinetti, who head the cast, González- Sinde defined the film as a story that combines narrative tension and emotional depth to explore how people cope with grief and rebuild their bonds. This intimate story combines suspense and the emotional exploration of a couple marked by loss.

The film brings spectators closer to Juan and Gloria - played by Grandinetti and Ozores - a couple separated for years, who meet again after the death of their daughter Kim. The appearance of a grandson they barely know, whose disappearance triggers the story, forces the two to stay together as they search for answers and confront the wounds they never got to heal.

The plot stems from González-Sinde's interest in exploring how relationships evolve after a tragedy and what kind of bond can survive even when everything seems to be broken. The director herself, in fact, has made it clear that beyond the suspense that drives the plot, the film focuses on the emotional dimension of its characters and the way in which each one deals with guilt, memory and the need to move on.

The filmmaker has revealed that the script stems from a novel she wrote, but before writing it, she spoke about it to producer Gerardo Herrero, who encouraged her to turn it into a film. What interested her was to see what remains between two people after many years and after such a profound loss, because "sometimes bonds don't disappear, they just change form", she said.

Set on the Mediterranean coast, specifically in the Alicante city of Benidorm, where the film was shot in its entirety, the film places its characters in a bright and apparently peaceful environment, which contrasts with the pain and uncertainty they are going through. For the filmmaker, this contrast reinforces the emotional dimension of the story and underlines the sense of strangeness experienced by the main characters. The film was shot entirely there.

For her part, actress Adriana Ozores highlighted the depth of the script and the way in which the film relies on silences, looks and gestures to build emotional tension. "It is a very restrained story, where many things are said without words. That is a very interesting challenge for the actors, because it forces them to work from the most intimate part of the character," he said.

Ozores also underlined the creative relationship she has with González-Sinde and the respect he has for her work with the performers. "Angeles has a very precise view of emotions and human fragility. That creates a very confident space to build complex characters," he argued.

For his part, Grandinetti emphasised the profoundly human nature of the story and the emotional journey of the main characters. From his point of view, the film moves between suspense and intimate drama to show how two people who thought they had shut their door on their past are forced to confront it again.

"The characters meet again at a very difficult moment and have to learn to look at each other in a new light. This process, full of contradictions and contained emotions, is the soul of the film", Grandinetti insisted.

The cast of Después de Kim brings together a solid group of actors headed by Adriana Ozores and Darío Grandinetti, to which is added the presence of the artist and actress Christina Rosenvinge, whose participation adds a singular dimension to the universe of the feature film. Alongside them, the cast is completed by other actors, who give shape to the family and emotional environment of the main characters, making up a choral cast that maintains the balance between the narrative tension and the emotional intimacy proposed by the story.

With a narrative that combines tension, introspection and emotion, Después de Kim is a reflection on memory, guilt and the possibility of rebuilding bonds even after the deepest ruptures.

Juan and Gloria, divorced and estranged for twenty years, travel to Spain, where their daughter, with whom they have no contact, has been found dead. Upon arrival, they discover that she has left behind a grandson, whose whereabouts are unknown. They decide to stay until they find him. Making that journey together without falling into the conflicts of the past will be their challenge.
