SYNOPSIS Iluminada, an elderly woman married to an alcoholic, lives in a society crippled by disillusion and under the threat of a mental-health pandemic. She faces the loss of her only sanctuary, the Cine Cuba, where she has worked for 30 years as an usher, using films to escape her harsh reality and her own neurosis. To save it, she must relive the conflicts of her youth and, with the help of Denis, the projectionist, reconcile with her past in order to imagine a future.
Jorge Perugorría
Key figure in Ibero-American cinema, he gained international recognition with
Strawberry and Chocolate (1993), the first Cuban film nominated for an Academy Award. Alongside his acclaimed acting career, he has built a solid trajectory as a director, bringing an authorial and socially engaged vision to films such as
Se Vende, Affinities and
Fátima, exploring identity, memory, and the contradictions of contemporary Cuba. Recipient of Cuba’s National Film Award in 2024.
