History of previous editions of the Malaga Festival

The celebration of the first decade of the Málaga Festival kicked off with a bang. with an emotional inaugural gala in which the actor Antonio Banderas, honorary president of the event, and the director Pedro Almodóvar sent two video messages congratulating the contest for its successful commitment to support Spanish cinema. ol. The film in charge of culminating the opening ceremony was ‘Lola’, a film by Miguel Hermoso based on the first years of the life of the legendary Lola Flores. Another of the great moments of this edition was experienced in during the tribute to the actor Alfredo Landa, who chose Málaga to announce his definitive retirement from the cinema.

The first feature film Félix Viscarret, ‘Bajo las estrellas’, was the great winner of this edition, collecting the Biznaga de oro and the awards for best director, best actor (Alberto San Juan) and best new screenwriter ‘Ladrones’, by Jaime Marqués, received nominations. the Special Jury Award and ‘Contestant’, by Rodrigo Cortés, the one from the critics and the one for best photography. Elvira Mínguez, who had received the best actress award for ‘Tapas’ to receive the same distinction this year for her work on "Pudor".

‘The Lesser of Evils’, by Antonio Hernández, won the awards for best supporting actress (Verónica Echegui), best script and best costumes. For its part, ‘Yours always’, by Manuel Lombardero, was awarded biznagas for best supporting actor (Nancho Novo), best music and best makeup, while ‘Café alone or with them’, by Álvaro Díaz Lorenzo, received the award. the Audience Award

The filmmaker Bigas Luna was the reason for the retrospective of the tenth edition of the contest, which recognized his talents. The work of production director Emiliano Otegui received the Ricardo Franco Award. The acting career of actress Carmen Maura was recognized with the Málaga Award.
