Juan Diego's emotional words of gratitude after receiving the Málaga Award in the twelfth edition of the Málaga contest marked a memorable moment in the history of the Málaga Festival. The Sevillian interpreter, who received the award was given by Antonio Banderas, assured the president. feel proud to belong to the acting profession and receive recognition at a “festival so necessary for Spanish cinema”.

‘La vergüenza’, a film in charge of inaugurating the Malaga Festival, was a hit. finally be the winning tape of the contest. The award for best supporting actress went to Toni Acosta for ‘7 minutos’, a feature film that also won the award for best original soundtrack. ‘El niño pez’, by Lucí Puenzo, received a prize. the Special Jury Prize and the one for best photography. For their part, Borja Cobeaga and Diego San José won the award for best novel script for ‘Pagafantas’ and the comedy ‘Brain Drain’ he got up with the Audience Award.

The producer Enrique Cerezo was the reason for the retrospective section of the contest and the make-up artist Gregorio Ros received a prize. the Ricardo Franco Award in this edition, in which the company was created. The Eloy de la Iglesia Award was awarded to recognize the work of those young creators whose career deviates from the established canons. The filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo was the first to collect this award, which owes its name to one of the most personal, controversial and daring directors of our cinematography.
