All Spanish cinema wants to be present at the Malaga Festival, and proof of this was the willingness of the prestigious filmmaker Carlos Saura to inaugurate with his film ‘Io, Don Giovanni’ the thirteenth edition of the contest, in which the director Julio Medem was the protagonist of the retrospective and the legendary Rosa María Sardá; was recognized with the Málaga Award.
‘Rabia’, by Ecuadorian Sebastiñ with Biznaga de oro and the awards for best supporting actor (Álex Brendemühl), best photography and a special mention for its male lead, Gustavo Sánchez Parra.
For its part, the dramatic melodrama ‘Bon appétit’, by David Pinillos, won the Special Jury Prize, as well as those for best actor (Unax Ugalde) and best script. The Biznaga de Plata for Best Director went to Juana Macías for ‘Planes para mañana’, a film for which Aurora Garrido received a prize. the award for best supporting actress.
‘Life begins today’, by Laura Mañá, was awarded the Critics Award and ‘Héroes’, by Pau Freixas, received the Critics Award. the Public Award. The Eloy Award was awarded to the filmmaker Gonzalo López Gallego and the work of the costume designer Javier Artiñano was recognized with the Ricardo Franco Award.
