With an increasingly consolidated notoriety, the sixth edition of the Malaga Festival once again offered a still photo of the best Spanish cinema both in its official competition and in the different sections of your grill. The celebration of the film appointment coincided with the festival. with the filming in Málaga of the film ‘The Bridge of San Luis Rey’, which is why part of its cast, headed by Robert de Niro, Harvey Keitel and Pilar López de Ayala, was present at the red carpet of the contest.

The director Pedro Olea was commissioned to inaugurate the Festival with the film ‘Tiempo de tormenta’, a drama starring Maribel Verdú, Jorge Sanz, Darío Grandinetti and María Barranco, which received a prize. the Jury Award and the Best Screenplay Award. But the big winner was ‘Torremolinos 73’, a comedy written and directed by newcomer Pablo Berger. In addition to winning the Biznaga de oro, the film gathered a lot of attention. the awards for best director, best actor (Javier Cámara) and best actress (Candela Peña). As was the case with ‘Al otro lado de la cama, the winning film of the fifth edition, ‘Torremolinos 73’ received four nominations for this year's Goya, reaffirming the Málaga contest as an important benchmark for celluloid in our country.

David Trueba stood up. He won the Best Director Award for ‘Welcome Home’ and ‘Two tough guys’, the first feature film by Juan Martínez Moreno, won the Audience Award. For its part, ‘Palabras encadenadas’, by Laura Mañá, received a prize. the awards for best music and photography. The joint work of the young actors in the film ‘Planta 4ª’, by Antonio Mercero, and the acting ductility of the actress from Malaga Mariola Fuentes, who participated in ‘Two tough guys’ and ‘Hotel Danubio’, each received special mentions from the jury.

The mythical filmmaker Juan Antonio Bardem, who died in October of the previous year, received a prize. The tribute of this sixth edition, in which Imanol Arias was recognized with the Málaga Award and Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón was the subject of the retrospective. Special effects specialist Reyes Abades was awarded the Ricardo Franco Award.

The contest organized a meeting with directors, which was attended by filmmakers such as Montxo Armendariz, Gerardo Vera, Emilio Martínez Lázaro, Agustín Díaz Yanes, Fernando León de Aranoa and David Trueba, among others.
