Canary Islands, protagonist of MAFIZ’s Territorio, the Industry Area of the Festival de Málaga
The Canarian delegation will present the incentives it provides to the audiovisual industry and will show own productions

The Autonomous Community will receive the Biznaga de Plata Award from the hands of the Mayor of the city, Francisco de la Torre

The Canary Islands will be the guest autonomous community at the third edition of Territorios of MAFIZ, the industry area of the Festival de Málaga. The delegation will focus on showcasing its locations and tax incentives to the international industry, attracting new productions to the archipelago and strengthening the industry's professional networks.

The delegation will be headed by the President of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, who will receive the Biznaga de Plata Award from the Mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, on the 7th of March. Organisations linked to the promotion of the audiovisual industry will also attend the event.

Another key appointment of the Canary Islands’ presence will be the conference by Canary Islands Film and ECIJA Canarias under the title ‘Keys to financing in the Canary Islands: subsidies and tax incentives'’.

Within the framework of MAFF, a number of Canarian productions will be presented. El exterior, by Silvia Sánchez Horna and Víctor Moreno Rodríguez; Sicario, by Daute Campos, Alejandro Artiles and Julio Díaz; Fiesta Negra, by Guillermo Margariños; and El niño y el tiburón, by Lucía Flórez.

The autonomous community will also be present at Market Premieres with Voy a desaparecer, by Coré Ruiz, alongside three other productions not premiered in any other international market and with the participation of the artistic talent of the works. In addition, eight short films produced in the Canary Islands will be screened in Malaga Short Corner and so will be the feature films Lo carga el diablo, by Guillermo Polo, and Rave culture — a new era, by Eduardo Cubillo in Regional Film Hub. These three sections are part of Spanish Screenings Content.

As an example of the vitality of Canarian audiovisual productions, this year's Festival de Málaga will feature La hojarasca by Macu Machín in Zonazine, El cuadro by Anatael Pérez in Short Films in Competition, and It was hot that day: a jandiman story by Chisco Valdés in the Documentary Short Films’ Official Selection.

Added to this, the Canarian delegation is represented in Málaga Talent. Cristina González-Roca Castañón will enjoy ten training sessions along with its colleagues from the new filmmakers’ generation.

The Canary Islands have been the setting of big national and international productions, and recently have become a major attraction in the audiovisual industry. Many titles have been shot in the archipelago:  the TV series Hierro by Movistar Plus+, Los abrazos rotos by Pedro Almodóvar or El niño by Daniel Monzón, as well as huge American productions such as Jason Bourne, Allied, Wonder Woman or the TV series Black Mirror.
