SYNOPSIS Two best friends, Abril and Yula, 8 years old, perform a ritual to make it rain. When they see that it works, they believe in magic and try to do the same to make a girl from their class they dislike, Carmela, disappear. The next day, Carmela doesn't show up to school, causing Abril and Yula to think they are responsible. Both promise never to tell the secret, but their paranoia grows as they fear they will be discovered. Abril will have to decide whether or not to maintain her friendship with Yula after finding out that she has betrayed her.
Karen Joaquín
29-year-old Dominican film director and analog photographer. Her passion for cinema led her to leave her country in 2018 due to the lack of opportunities for film education at that time. With the help of a scholarship, she studied in Barcelona until she obtained her degree in Film Direction at the ECIB. Her short film
O que me parta un rayo is part of the palmarès at the 56th edition of the Sitges International Film Festival, earning the award for the best screenplay and a special mention in the Nova Autoria SGAE section. In late 2022, she won the ICEC grant for the production of her upcoming short film,
Juanita. She is determined to succeed as an Afro-Latin American immigrant director, showcasing her sensibility, her perspective, and her personal stories.
