SYNOPSIS Winemaker Hugo D’Acosta and chef Benito Molina embark on a journey across the remote Baja California Peninsula in northwestern Mexico, a land of striking contrasts between ocean, desert, and mountains. From the vineyards of Valle de Guadalupe to the oases of San Ignacio, they confront the region’s raw beauty and the scars of human impact. Surgencia is a love letter to this unique land, written by two figures who have irreversibly shaped its culinary and wine culture.
Alejandro Montalvo
He is a Mexican film and advertising director known for capturing cultural and emotional depth in his projects. He began as a photographer and producer in independent cinema, working on films such as
Hotel de paso,
Navajazo,
México bárbaro 2, and
Ahí va el diablo. His short film
Hambre was selected at festivals like FICG and the New Latin American Cinema Festival in Havana. Founder of Empírica Creative and the agency Mad and Math, he has earned recognition at film and advertising festivals. He is currently developing his second feature film, based on stories by writer Daniel Salinas Basave.
