The call for applications for Malaga Work in Progress, an event of the Industry Zone MAFIZ geared at Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American projects, has been announced
The seventh edition of the event will be held from 4th to 8th March, 2024, as part of Spanish Screenings Content of the 27th Malaga Film Festival

The Malaga Film Festival announced today the call for applications for Malaga Work in Progress, an event that forms part of its Industry Zone MAFIZ (Malaga Festival Industry Zone) and is geared at Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American projects. The objective is to guarantee the event’s commitment to the diversity of languages and identities of Ibero-America and its audiovisual industry.

Malaga WIP is organised by the Malaga City Council and the Malaga Film Festival, in collaboration with the ICAA (Institute of Cinematography and the Visual Arts of Spain), CAACI (Conference of Audiovisual and Cinematographic Authorities of Ibero-America), IBERMEDIA and FIPCA (Ibero-American Federation of Film and Audiovisual Producers).

It will be held from the 4th to the 8th of March, 2024 in the framework of the 27th Malaga Film Festival. Projects can be registered online until the 15th of January through the MAFIZ website. The projects that are selected will be announced in January.

Malaga WIP forms part of Spanish Screenings Content 2024, an event designed as an international promotion platform, the main objective of which is to boost the sales of Spanish cinema. Spanish Screenings, which will hold its 18 edition in 2024, is the sole official market for the sale and promotion of Spanish films. For a third year in a row it is reinforced by funds from the Plan for Recovery, Transformation and Resilience, promoted by the Ministries of Culture and Digital Transformation in the framework of the component  'Spain, Audiovisual Hub of Europe'.

Spanish Screenings Content is one of the four areas of focus of Spanish Screenings XXL,  together with Spanish Screenings On Tour, Spanish Screenings: Financing & Tech (at the San Sebastian Film Festival) and Spanish Screenings 360, a programme of active year-long actions, which also includes a monthly podcast available on all the platforms, and the future creation of a virtual promotion and business platform.

‘Spanish Screenings XXL, an international market for Spanish audiovisual production’ is a project which involves the Ministry of Culture through ICAA, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones [Spanish Trade Commission], the Malaga Film Festival and the San Sebastian Film Festival.
The objectives of Malaga WIP, which will hold its seventh edition in 2024, are to boost the financing of films by presenting them to prominent professionals of the audiovisual industry; to facilitate their dissemination and promotion; to support the completion of films in the post-production phase and to make their international distribution feasible.

The event comprises two different actions:

            1. Malaga WIP Spain: designed to boost the completion of fiction feature films and documentaries in the final cut phase that are ready for the post-production process and are seeking to ensure their international distribution. Six Spanish films will participate.

            2. Malaga WIP Ibero-America: designed to boost the completion of fiction feature films and documentaries in the final cut phase that are ready for the post-production process and are seeking to ensure their international distribution. Six Ibero-American films will participate.

The participating films will be selected by a prestigious committee of experts and will be screened for the professionals participating in MAFIZ and the 27th Malaga Film Festival, including sales agents, international distributors, festival programmers, international funds and producers.
