Cine Abierto schedules 120 free screenings in all districts of Malaga
Malaga City Council's summer cinema programme starts on 26 June and will run until 14 August in 22 venues

Cine Abierto, the summer cinema organised each year by Malaga City Council through Málaga Procultura in the 11 districts of the city, returns from 26 June to 14 August with 120 free screenings in 22 public spaces. Attended by thousands of people every year, these screenings have the collaboration of "la Caixa" Foundation, sponsorship by Cervezas Victoria, Repsol and Idealista and the participation of different Malaga City Council departments, the Public Agency for the Management of the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Birthplace and Other Museum and Cultural Facilities, Limposam and the Historical Cemetery of San Miguel.

Councillor for Culture and Historical Heritage of Malaga City Council, Mariana Pineda, presented this initiative with the manager of Málaga Procultura, Juan Antonio Vigar, and representatives of the sponsors and collaborators. The film Living by Oliver Hermanus will be shown in its original version with Spanish subtitles at the English Cemetery, a new venue this year. It will take place on 17 July at 10 pm.

This year Cine Abierto also incorporates a new cycle in the Historic Cemetery of San Miguel, a space added last year and that will show a programme entitled Education and teaching in film, inspired by Teresa Aspiazu y Paúl, director of the Escuela Normal de Magisterio between 1914 and 1927 and the first female councillor in Malaga. Three films will be shown: Radical, by Christopher Zalla (3 July), Puan, by María Alché and Benjamín Naishtat (24 July) and El maestro que prometió el mar, by Patricia Font (14 August), all at 10 pm.

Cine Abierto is also renewing the 'Signature cinema’ cycle at the Eduardo Ocón Auditorium, which will screen Justine Triet's Anatomie d'une chute (Anatomy of a Fall), Aki Kaurismaki's Fallen Leaves, Wim Wenders' Perfect Days, Jonathan Glazer's The Zone of Interest and Ryûsuke Hamaguchi's Aku Wa Sonzai Shinai (Evil does not exist) in original version with Spanish subtitles. These sessions will take place at 10.15 pm.

Also at 10.15 pm, in the Plaza de Tabacalera, in collaboration with the Public Agency for the Management of the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Birthplace and Other Museum and Cultural Facilities, the cycle of Spanish Cinema will be repeated, with eight screenings: Cerrar los ojos, by Víctor Erice; La abadesa, by Antonio Chavarrías; La casa, by Álex Montoya; La estrella azul, by Javier Mancipe; Los pequeños amores, by Celia Rico Clavellino; Nina, by Andrea Jaurrieta; Pájaros, by Pau Durá, and Segundo Premio, by Isaki Lacuesta.
