Gastronomic legacy, memory and the Mediterranean diet come together in the second session of Cinema Cocina
The documentaries ‘Sa cuina des récords’, ‘Tentempié. Gusto y memoria’ y ‘La comida perfecta’ took centre stage on Saturday at the Teatro Echegaray
The trio formed by 'Sa cuina des records', by Àlex Arroyo; ‘Tentempié. Gusto y memoria’, by Jacobo Gavira and Luis Mengs; and 'La comida perfecta’, by Alexandros Merkouris, were at the centre of the second day of Cinema Cocina, held this Saturday at the Teatro Echegaray, with the protagonists in attendance. Three documentaries, two shorts and a feature film, linked by gastronomic memory, tradition and the Mediterranean diet.
The round table, hosted by Álvaro Muñoz from Lumen Proyectos Gastronomicos, brought together the directors of the three documentaries in a meeting where they highlighted the importance of 'experiences shared around a table' and the impact of the Mediterranean diet. On this occasion, the tasting was of mojama, a type of salt-cured tuna, with toasted almonds and EVOO, paired with a Victoria beer, sponsor of the section.
After the screenings, attendees attended a conversation in which the protagonists of the documentaries brought up common points such as the preservation of traditions, memories and the interconnection between territories.
The director of 'La comida perfecta', filmmaker Alexandros Merkouris, has pointed out that the project 'not only showcases a scientific point of view, but also a cultural one, thus showing the diversity of the Mediterranean diet as a lifestyle'. This opinion has also been shared by Álex Arroyo from 'Sa cuina des records', who accompanies the chef Pau Sintes on the big screen on his return to his native Menorca. 'What we wanted to do is convey what cooking makes you feel, from emotion to passion, and how there are recipes that make you feel at home, even if you are anywhere else in the world,' explains the director of the short film.
The directors of ‘Tentempié. Gusto y memoria', Jacobo Gavira and Luis Mengs, have defined the documentary feature film as 'a very punk project' and a 'space of freedom'.
In fact, 'the interviewees came to the kitchen to film without knowing what we were going to talk about'
This Sunday the 3rd of March, the Teatro Echegaray will open its doors to screen 'El misterio de la barra', a short film in which Santiago Madueño delves into the world of cocktails. Later, the documentary will show a passionate journey led by sommelier Mariana Torta, in 'Into the wine', a tour of different European cities, directed by the two-time winner of the silver Biznaga award, Alfred Oliveri.
