The bartender's profession and the figure of the sommelier can be found at Cinema Cocina
The feature documentaries 'El misterio de la barra' and 'Into the wine' were screened in this third session of the gastronomic cycle
The world of cocktails and wine territories were the protagonists of the third day of Cinema Cocina, the gastronomic documentary series of the Malaga Festival, which brings together 17 national and international productions in its seventh edition. Two audiovisual projects accompanied by special tastings for attendees and combined with reflections on the bartending profession and the figure of the sommelier.
The session began with 'El misterio de la barra', directed by Santiago Madueño, a documentary that brings together on the big screen different figures from the world of bartending, traveling from Barcelona to Mexico. Next, 'Into the wine', by the double winner of the Biznaga de Plata, Alfred Oliveri, was screened, accompanying the sommelier Mariana Torta on a cinematographic journey through some of the most important wine regions of the world, such as Burgundy (France) or Piedmont (Italy). After the screenings, the attendees tasted two wines from Argentina, red and white, paired with an Inés Rosales cake with avocado cream, diced tomato and mackerel in oil.
During the talk, the protagonist of 'Into the wine', Mariana Torta, explained how, throughout the film, 'not only the wine is seen, but also the landscapes and the personalities behind each one. In fact, for me it is very important to get to know the person to see what they want to tell with their wines'. Likewise, throughout the tasting, the sommelier led the attendees through the senses by tasting the different wines and explaining their organoleptic characteristics. For his part, Oliveri has delved into the importance and 'the balance of forces between narration and storytelling of the protagonists', from winemakers to sommeliers or renowned chefs.
About the feature film, Santiago Madueño, highlighted the 'hospitable character of the bartender' and how the life of the bartender is always associated with a bar. With this documentary we pretend to show the story behind each cocktail', he added, after narrating some anecdotes about the iconic figure of the bartender Salvatore Calabrese.
Tomorrow, Monday, the 4th of March, Cinema Cocina will start with 'Equibocados', a documentary produced by Le Cordon Bleu, which reflects on learning processes and results, and the short film 'El bizcocho de Alfonso XIII', by Jordi Busquets, about the Micheto pastry shop that has been making the same sweet since the early twentieth century. The day will conclude with 'Basajaun 2, el regreso al terruño', the second part of a wine documentary directed by Salvador Arellano and Miguel García Iraburu. After the screenings, as usual, there will be a round table and tastings.
