The Festival de Málaga, as part of the 27th edition, has presented the new book by historian and film critic Carlos F. Heredero La reinvención del Cine Español, in collaboration with the event and published by the magazine Caimán Cuadernos de Cine. A work in which the author, along with others, look at the focuses and turning points that reveal the constant effort of the film industry to seek alternative forms compared to the most routine production.
The University of Malaga Rectorate was chosen as the venue for the presentation of the degree this Sunday 3rd of March. The colloquium was led by the writer and filmmaker Luis Alegre, who was accompanied by one of the book's collaborators, Casimiro Torreiro; Juan Antonio Vigar, director of the festival, as well as the author himself.
'La reinvención del cine español is not a magic potion or depiction, but a reflection of the history, evolution and study of Spanish film,' said Heredero, who has evaluated this work as 'a journey that has tried to be delimited, with the idea of reflecting moments of light in reinvention and creation'.
The title has a select group of names that join its authorship with contributions in the form of chapters. Santiago Aguilar, Felipe Cabrerizo, Enric Albero, Josetxo Cerdán Los Arcos, Fidel Enciso Durán, Carlos F. Heredero, Concha Gómez, José Enrique Monterde, Áurea Ortiz Villeta, Esteve Riambau, Diego Rufo Helguera, Antonio Santamarina, Elsa Tébar, Casimiro Torreiro and Jara Yáñez, are the authors that make up the work that, in the words of Carlos F. Heredero 'are all those who are there, but not all who should be there'.
Casimiro Torreiro, for his part, wanted to highlight 'the fortune of having Málaga as a tool and process for reviewing and rethinking the historiography of Spanish cinema' in a book that analyses and delves into thirteen plot twists' that have occurred in the world of national cinema that places the focus and value on the meaning that various periods and moments have had. For example, the innovative impulse represented by the production of Filmófono during the Republic, the 'critical regenerationism' of the 50s, the transgressive expressions of black and crude humour, the intermediate model of the 'Third Way', the metaphorical cinema during the political transition or the two x-rays of the contemporary moment, are some of the most relevant moments that the title addresses.
Similarly, Juan Antonio Vigar wanted to show his gratitude and enthusiasm in this work, which he assured will be 'a benchmark book' with which 'the fans have had their eyes opened to the journey of Spanish film, emphasising the work carried out by the Festival de Málaga in remembering, rescuing and enjoying the history of our cinema through already established sections such as 'La Película de Oro', or newly created ones such as La Cápsula del Tiempo or Underground Andaluz.
