The audiovisual industry generated almost €8 million in Malaga in 2025 and is consolidating its position as an economic engine
Málaga Film Office, the City Council office dedicated to the audiovisual sector, handled almost 500 projects last year


Málaga Film Office, the municipal film office of Malaga City Council, part of Málaga Procultura, handled 492 audiovisual projects in 2025, of which 193 productions were completed. These productions represented a direct economic investment of €7.9 million, contributing 46% more to the Malaga economy than the previous year.
 
The type of production that saw the most activity in Malaga in 2025, as in previous years, was advertising (photos/commercials, music videos, and corporate videos) with 85 productions, followed by short films with 30, and finally, TV and online programmes with 22. However, in economic terms, series invested the most with over 4 million euros, followed by advertising with over 1.5 million, and in third place feature films, with just over 1 million.
 
By nationality, Spain was again the country that produced the most in Malaga with 157 productions, followed by Italy with five, and in third place the USA, Sweden, and England with four projects each.
 
At the local level, the most sought-after locations by district were, firstly, the City Centre, followed by Carretera de Cádiz, and lastly Málaga Este, thanks in part to the decentralisation efforts of this office in its commitment to a sustainable production model, which directs productions—as far as possible—to less crowded areas. This work promotes the visibility of other areas of the city and at the same time ensures a balanced distribution.
 
Since 2001, the municipal one-stop shop has been providing free assistance to all audiovisual productions that choose Malaga as their filming location. To ensure the smooth running of 193 productions, this office handled 277 administrative procedures in coordination with various departments and issued 82 official notifications, in addition to providing personalised technical support, including monitoring municipal locations and offering direct assistance during production.
 
Notable productions, releases and distributions in 2025
 
Among the productions filmed—in whole or in part—in the city of Malaga, the following stand out:
 
  • Feature films: the Malaga-based En la quietud de la luz, a science fiction story written and directed by Fernando Frater and produced by Ezekiel Montes (Ezinema Studios); Cuarzo, by Daniel Ortiz Entrambasaguas, produced by Danidogfilms in co-production with Suena Perú, which expands the universe of the successful short film 7:11 Cuarzo; and Aminetu, directed by Lucía Muñoz and produced by Entrefronteras, which portrays the struggle and resistance of the activist defending the rights of the Sahrawi people.
  • Documentaries: El inventor del cine invisible, directed by Manuel Jiménez and produced by Yolaperdono, explores the life of Guillermo Jiménez Smerdou, a Málaga-born journalist, and film enthusiast who spearheaded the first Spanish film festival in Malaga in 1953; and Manuel Garvayo, directed by Joaquín Recio and produced by Atrapasueño Cinema, which explores the work of the Malaga-born painter of the same name.
  • Series: the Malaga-based La quinta percepción by José Enrique March and Love in, directed by Silvana Tomeo and starring Elena Martínez and El Chojín, both produced by Ezinema Studio; Reina roja 2: Loba negra, directed by Koldo Serra for Prime Video and the comedy Grande de España for Netflix, by Juan Cavestany and Álvaro Fernández Armero, starring Antonio de la Torre and Alexandra Jiménez. Internationally, from the Malaga-based production company Ánima Stillking for Netflix,  The Empress Season 3 (Germany); for Prime Video; the British documentary series Born Racers Season 2; and the Swedish series Fallen from another Malaga-based production company, Loslocations; and the Korean film Surely tomorrow, starring Asian stars Park Seo-Joon and Won Ji-An (The Squid Game Season 2) is being produced by Palma Pictures, the same company behind the British BBC series This City is Ours Season 2, which filmed in Málaga for Season 1.
  • Short films: Roshni, directed by Rakesh Narwani (Bazar Films) about racist bullying; Donde sí me ven, directed by Maggie Zacarías, which explores the personal and emotional story of its producer, Angélica Leiva; Ghosting y otros fantasmas, by Élise Tandé (Tandartistes) about sudden disappearances and "ghost" relationships; Churrería Maravillas directed by Ana García and Guillermo Rodríguez (Siete Arcos A&A Films); Consagrada, début film by Pedro Atlante (Tralla Estudio) a film about faith, friends and new lives and the short documentary 60º Aniversario Miraflores de los Ángeles by Enrique García produced by Apertura/Míchelo Toro. Also noteworthy are the projects by students of SchoolTraining and, as every year, the web series Hazte un Akemarropa, created by students of the Málaga Film School during the Festival de Málaga. At the international level, the Swedish film Den Osmidige, directed by Lode Kuylenstierna and produced by Kolibri Films. 
  • Programmes: Aprendemos en Clan: el reto and Team Total (both for TVE's Clan TV); Casting Operación Triunfo (Prime Video), which once again used the Caja Blanca studio to find the best voices; the contest Lo sabe, no lo sabe for Cuatro TV and El partidazo de Youtubers (streaming). And for Canal Sur: Desmontando Andalucía: ocupación francesa, Andalucía directo, No dejes de soñar and Tierra y mar. Internationally, the Italian programmes Kilimangiaro, Little Big Italy and Let's Change the World, the American programme Curious Traveler and the Korean programme Backpack Travels: Walk Expedition Andalusia.
  • Institutional and promotional videos: Málaga for real (Narita Studio in collaboration with Montape for the Tourism Department), El trato andaluz (Lee Films for Turismo Andaluz); Promo Gala de clausura 28º Festival de Málaga (Málaga Procultura for TVE2); Patrullas and Mi primera Navidad by the Audiovisual team of the Local Police of Málaga and the Concurso Internacional de Piano Ciudad de Málaga, which was filmed in Tabacalera. 
 
 
Among the advertising productions are:
 
  • Commercials: Those produced by Malaga-based companies such as Puerto de Indias (El Cuartel) and Dunkin Frozen and Dunkin Navidad 2025 (Polo Studio); Unicredit (Sunny Productions) and APCP associates: Endesa/Enel and Ferrari (ViVi-Film); B100: The Healthy Banking, starring Malaga-born Salva Reina (Landia), Larios Mediterranean spirit (Agosto Content); Cervezas San Miguel: Sentir Málaga (The Production Club) and Emirates: Let the Holiday Continue (Twentyfour Seven).
  • Publicity shoots: Eliria Collection (The Little Agency), Under Armour (Twentyfour Seven) and Swedish fashion brands Ellos, End Clothing Menswear and Cellbes (John Lamb) as well as other well-known brands such as BMW, Audi, Jack and Jones, Vogue Spain, etc.
  • Corporate videos: Netflix presentations for the series The Snow Girl 2 at Polo Digital and the film Tron Ares, Marvel Disney character with Jared Leto and Jodie Turner-Smith at the Alcazaba (Nu-do), Honda CB100F (Band Originale), Unicaja: Requetecuenta (Callala Team), OXO EVENT: Tetris and Rubik (La Niña Films) with interviews with its creators and Mercados de Andalucía: tu compra de confianza from the Federación Andaluza de Mercados de Abastos.
  • Music videos: Escarmentado, by Celia Flores, filmed at the Alcazaba and the MIMA; En Málaga nos quedamos by Boterita, directed by Delia Márquez; Qué bonita se te ve, by Fali Torreblanca who chose the iconic Calle Larios and other locations in the city centre. Internationally, Ať je klid, by Calin & Ewa Farna from the Czech Republic.
  • Video games: from Malaga-based companies such as Tómbola, the great game of Spanish cinema (Novelingo) and Sigillum (Closed Room Studio). 
 
Among the premières of productions filmed in previous years in our city, we were able to enjoy Virgins and Aullar in cinemas, and The Snow Girl 2 and Two Graves (Netflix), Queen of Fucking Everything (Prime Video) and The Girlfriend and La suerte ( Disney+) on platforms.
 
Among the projects distributed by Malaga-based companies such as Ojos Abiertos Films, we find La vida en una gota (Life in a Drop), a documentary that highlights the importance of the heel prick test, and by Reverso Films, La historia de Frank y Nina (The Story of Frank and Nina), presented in the international section of the Festival de Málaga.
 
The Málaga Film Office YouTube channel promotes projects made in Malaga, categorised by production type and year, location, nationality, group or objective, genre, product, distribution, and platform, as well as showcasing what the Málaga film industry produces abroad.
 
Environmental commitment
 
The Málaga Film Office operates with a strong commitment to the environment, promoting sustainable development practices that prevent and minimise the environmental impact of audiovisual activities. In this vein, together with Promálaga and the Environmental Advisory Centre, part of the City Council's Environment Department, Málaga Film Office offers the sustainable production seal, which certifies the best practices in this area for companies that choose Málaga as a location for their audiovisual projects.
 
The aim of this procedure - which positions Málaga as a benchmark - is to raise awareness and engage the entire audiovisual sector. Seven seals were awarded in 2025 (21 since the initiative began in 2021) including The Empress T3 by production company Ánima Stillking, Ecos de Papel by Salvador Torres and the SchoolTraining student projects: Camelia Carmín, La reconquista, Última voluntad, No sabe igual and La herradura.
