Orgullo vieja, a documentary made up of monologues by the filmmaker Chema Rodríguez, is shown in the ‘Zonazine' section
The film stars non-professional actresses between 68 and 97 years old
The fifth day of the 27th Festival de Málaga arrives at the ‘Zonazine' section with Orgullo vieja, by the director Chema Rodríguez, a feature-length documentary in which elderly non-professional actresses talk about their lives through humorous monologues.
Orgullo vieja tells the story of eight women from the Triana neighbourhood, aged between 68 and 97. They all share the same dream: they want to be stand-up comedians, succeed in show business, and claim that older women deserve respect and visibility. To this end, they haveve created a show entitled Orgullo vieja.
A press conference was held after the film’s screening in Hall 3 of Cine Albéniz, attended by the director, Chema Rodríguez, the monologist Rafael Galán Falín, and the actresses Rafaela Chaparro, Josefa Delgado, Antonia Cid, Esperanza García, Ángeles Ortega ‘Kiska’, Catalina Gaitán, Remedios García and Josefa García.
The project began more than two years ago: 'My partner and I wanted to do something with older people, but we didn't know exactly what. All these women have been taking care of their children, their grandchildren, their husbands…. When they have really felt liberated is when they've been able to fly and live their lives', the film's director said at the press conference.
The actress Ángeles Ortega 'Kiska' (Veneno, La mesías) wanted to highlight the pride she felt working with all these women: 'There has been a total understanding between all of us, we've formed a big family'. She also made a plea in favour of LGTBI people in old age: 'This project has also given visibility to LGTBI people in old age. When it comes to getting older, many people are left alone, and this is accentuated if you belong to the collective'.
Rafael Galán 'Falín', creator of the monologues and one of the actors, has expressed his interest in turning the story into a theatre tour: 'We want the film to be a springboard for a theatre show, to tour all of them around the cities of Spain'.
With regard to the film's route, after its screening at the Festival de Málaga, they plan to present it at the 'Silver Film Festival', the first film festival in the Basque Country dedicated to giving visibility to the elderly. It will then travel to the Guadalajara International Film Festival. The director's ultimate goal is to premiere the film on Movistar and Canal Sur.
