The aim of this call, for which a total of 27 projects were submitted, is to encourage and stimulate audiovisual creation in the province of Malaga. The purpose of the grants is to support audiovisual projects for their development as feature films (fiction, documentary or animation) which can subsequently be made into a work to be shown in cinemas, on television or on digital platforms. The aim is to finance the costs of carrying out the activities needed to produce the audiovisual work prior to filming or production, such as script development costs, project definition costs and the search for financing and co-production, or the costs of designing and producing promotional material.
La lenta extinción de las ciudades (The slow extinction of cities)
A project directed and written by Malaga filmmaker Chiqui Carabante and produced by Películas del Manzano, which tackles a subject of broad social interest with an intimate and deeply emotional story. Using the current housing problems in Spain and various international cities as a backdrop, the project explores personal relationships marked by vulnerability and resistance.
Escribe a Ramón (Write to Ramón)
A hybrid project that mixes reality and fiction, based on the personal story of director and screenwriter Amanda Gutiérrez. Produced by José David Díaz (Plano Subjetivo), its plot revolves around the experience of his mother, who worked as a maid at the age of 48 for a family and developed a deep maternal bond with Ramón, one of the sons, who years later took his own life.
No soy universal (I am not universal)
Celia de Molina directs this comedy, co-scripted with Teresa Bellón and produced by José Alba (Pecado Films). The project offers an intelligent and amusing look at the everyday life of women, tackling motherhood and the realities of everyday life with freshness and humour.
Carlos (siempre) Pacheco
This biographical documentary directed by Adrián Ordóñez, written by Sergio Rubio and produced by Muy al Sur Films delves into the figure of Carlos Pacheco, a pioneer of graphic art and an outstanding international reference in the world of comics. Originally from San Roque, he achieved success in the United States by collaborating with giants such as Marvel and DC Comics. Pacheco, who died in 2022 at the age of 61 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), left a significant artistic and personal legacy. The documentary takes a comprehensive look at his brilliant career through the testimonies of family members, such as his son Alejandro Pacheco, as well as cartoonists, professionals and experts in the sector. It will be filmed in emblematic places of his life, from his hometown, San Roque, to key locations in the USA.
Juantxu
Manuel Jiménez and Andoni Famoso direct this biographical and social documentary that explores the life of the photographer and journalist Juantxu Rodríguez, who was murdered in Panama while working with Maruja Torres. Set in the 1980s, a period marked by intense social and political changes, Juantxu was a privileged witness thanks to his camera, capturing decisive moments with a unique quality and sensitivity. It is produced by Yolaperdono (Andalusia), in co-production with Gachiro Films (Basque Country) and Bolero Films (Panama).
Luz en la oscuridad (Light in the darkness)
This project by José Antonio Hergueta and MLK Producciones explores the exile of the poet Luis Cernuda and the impact of the entire Generation of '27 from 1937 to 1963. Cernuda, whose voice will be represented by a voice-over narration performed by an actor, will be accompanied on his international tour by other emblematic figures such as Rosa Chacel, María Zambrano, Manuel Altolaguirre and Emilio Prados. Through dramatised re-enactments, this documentary, which adopts the format of a mockumentary, accurately captures various episodes of the group's long exile, from Paris to Glasgow, London, Connecticut, Havana and Mexico.
