Malaga City Council's summer cinema programme starts on the 28th of June and will run until the 15th of August in 19 venues
Open Cinema, the summer cinema organised every year by the
Malaga City Council through
Malaga Procultura in the 11 districts of the city, comes back from the 28th of June to the 15th of August with free screenings on beaches, in parks and other public spaces.
These screenings, which are attended by thousands of people every year, have the collaboration of
"la Caixa" Foundation, the sponsorship of
Cervezas Victoria,
Repsol,
Idealista and Prime and the participation of different
areas of Malaga City Council, the
Public Agency for the Management of the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Birthplace and Other Museum and Cultural Facilities, Limposam and the
Historic San Miguel Cemetery.
The manager of Málaga Procultura,
Juan Antonio Vigar, presented this initiative today with representatives of the sponsors and collaborators. In attendance were the councillor for Operational Services, Internal Affairs, Beaches and Festivals,
Teresa Porras; the councillor for Environmental Sustainability,
Penélope Gómez; the manager of Limposam,
Cándido Martín, and the manager of Parcemasa,
Federico Souvirón. On behalf of the sponsors,
Juan Carlos Barroso, territorial manager in Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla of "la Caixa" Foundation;
Gerardo Cuartero, commercial director in Malaga, Cordoba, Almeria, Ceuta and Melilla of Caixabank;
Genoveva Ferragut, director of communication and external relations of Cervezas Victoria, and
Florentino Escalante, commercial director south zone of Idealista.
Open Cinema 2024 will offer a total of 118 screenings in 19 venues in the city. Of these, 34 will be held at the Cine Albéniz (all in the morning session, at 11 a.m.), 32 will be on beaches and 22 in parks (all at 10.15 p.m.). The programme includes 31 different titles spread over 49 screening days. All screenings will be free until full capacity is reached.
The Open Cinema cycles
This year Open Cinema is adding a new space to its programme, the
Historic San Miguel Cemetery, where you can watch three very special films, which will only be screened there:
El cielo protector (the 4th of July),
Muerte en Venecia (the 25th of July) and
On the road (the 15th of August), all of them at 10 p.m.
These screenings complete the cultural activities that the cemetery organises throughout the year. This historic monumental complex, included in the General Catalogue of Andalusian Heritage, is one of the best preserved neoclassical cemeteries of the 19th century in Spain. Its pantheons and tombs contain the burial places of important figures from the cultural, social and economic life of Malaga and personalities who have left their mark on the history of Spain. Closed in 1986, it is now a cultural centre where activities such as exhibitions, concerts, conferences, guided tours and theatrical performances, among others, are held.
In addition, Open Cinema is renewing the
'Cinema with signature' cycle, in the
Eduardo Ocón Auditorium, in which
Aftersun (Charlotte Wells),
Almas en pena de Inisherin (Martin McDonagh),
As bestas (Rodrigo Sorogoyen),
El triángulo de la tristeza (Ruben Ötslund) and
Oppenheimer (Christopher Nolan) will be screened.
In
Plaza de Tabacalera, in collaboration with the Public Agency for the Management of the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Birthplace and Other Museum and Cultural Facilities, the cycle
'Abierto al español' repeats, with eight screenings:
20.000 especies de abejas (Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren),
Bajo terapia (Gerardo Herrero),
Empieza el baile (Marina Seresesky),
En los márgenes (Juan Diego Botto),
La maternal (Pilar Palomero),
Matria (Álvaro Gago)
Un año, una noche (Isaki Lacuesta) and
Upon Entry (Alejandro Rojas and Juan Sebastián Vázquez).
Likewise, the
