Carmen Machi unveils her monolith on the Antonio Banderas Promenade
The actress will receive the Málaga-SUR Award at this Saturday's gala at the 28th Festival de Málaga
The Antonio Banderas Promenade in Málaga added a new monolith to its collection of honoured figures this Saturday, that of the actress Carmen Machi, who will receive the Málaga-SUR Award at tonight's gala. The Madrid-born performer unveiled the plaque to applause and cheers, accompanied by the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre; the Councillor for Culture and Historical Heritage, Mariana Pineda; the Editor-in-Chief of Diario SUR, Ana Pérez-Bryan; and the Director of the Festival de Málaga, Juan Antonio Vigar.
With this monolith, the festival seeks to pay tribute to Machi's outstanding career as a stage, film and television actress, a career spanning more than three decades. The actress began her stage career at the age of 17 and, at 30, joined the company La Abadía.
She rose to fame on television playing Aída García in 7 vidas, which led her to star in her own spin-off, Aída. From there, her career diversified, with the actress branching out into cinema with films such as Los abrazos rotos (2009), Ocho apellidos vascos (2014), which won her a Goya Award, and La puerta abierta (2016), in addition to her work in theatre with plays such as Los Mácbez and Antígona.
She continued to shine on television with series such as Criminal: España ( 2019) and Vida perfecta ( 2021), and in cinema she appeared in productions such as Amor de madre ( 2022). In 2023, she appeared in The Messiah and, in 2024, in the miniseries Celeste.
For all these reasons, tonight, at the 28th edition of the Festival de Málaga, the actress will receive the Malaga-SUR Award, which recognises professionals with long and outstanding careers in film.
