Directors Cristina Galán and David Suárez present the comedy 'A nadie le importas' in the Zonazine section
The film tells the story, based on true events, of the comedian's cancellation due to a controversial tweet.
Hall 3 of the Albéniz cinema today saw the première of the film 'A nadie le importas', part of the Zonazine section of the 28th Festival de Málaga. It tells the story of David, a comedian obsessed with being famous. After the publication of a controversial joke on social media, he sees his career and status threatened. Pressured by the thought of losing everything, he publicly asks for forgiveness. This automatically catapults him to present the most watched programme on television. But, shortly afterwards, another joke will lead to his dismissal and social banishment.
The press conference after the screening was attended by its director and star, David Suárez; the director, Cristina Galán; and another of the actors, Santi Alverú.
The germ of this film can be found in a real situation experienced by the comedian David Suárez, director and star of the film. Following a controversial tweet in 2019, he was fired from the programme he worked on. In 'A nadie le importas' a parallel reality is told: what would have happened had he never apologised.
In the words of its director, Cristina Galán: "We decided to do a mix of fact and fiction, which is something we do in many of our projects. That's why all people who are public make a distorted version of themselves, with their name and surname."
Another of the protagonists of the film is the comedian and actor Santi Alverú. In a press conference, he explained how all those who work in comedy in Spain cannot help but think of the United States as a reference point: "On a budget and production level it has nothing to do with Spain, but on a theoretical level there is something spiritual that connects us with them. If David were in the United States, with what had happened to him, he would have had a documentary, a film or at least a reflection. That's why I think that making this film about this situation makes perfect sense."
"The film explains very well that cancellation is a term used to define how a system takes you away, but many times this cancellation is only ethical and the industrial or commercial part does not suffer," said the actor Santi Alverú.
As for the film's references, David Suárez wanted to highlight stories of people who are lost, such as The Graduate, Lost in Translation and American Beauty. But above all, the filmmakers wanted to make a fun and entertaining film.
Cristina Galán is a filmmaker, photographer and producer. David Suárez is a comedian, director and scriptwriter. Both wrote and directed this project after more than 10 years of working together on various audiovisual fiction and photography works. With their first project, Vincent Finch, they got more than 4 million views on YouTube and the award for best actor at the 2014 FEW festival.
Regarding the distribution of the film, Galán tells us that they are still in the process of looking for distribution. It is a completely self-financed film, with minimal investment. The Festival de Málaga was the first public screening of A nadie le importas.
