The Festival de Málaga celebrates a new edition of the Women on Stage exhibit
The cycle screens films that deal with memory, violence, urbanism and human relations from a gender perspective
This Tuesday 18 March, the Turismo Andaluz headquarters hosted the screening of the award-winning films of the Women on Stage Film Festival, held between October and November 2024, and organised by the Festival de Málaga in collaboration with the Department of Social Rights, Equality, Accessibility and Inclusive Policies of Malaga City Council.
Part of the Asserting Women's Rights section, this space offers a selection of films that focus on stories starring, directed and written by women, addressing themes such as memory, identity, violence and social inequalities.
The winning titles screened include 'Indarkeriaren oi(h)artzunak', a documentary by Amaia Merino and Ander Iriarte that reconstructs Tamara Muruetagoiena's search for justice, marked by the violence of ETA; 'Mentiste Amanda', by Eva Libertad and Nuria Muñoz, which narrates the struggle of two girls to remain united while confronting their aggressor; 'La Banda', by Delia Márquez and Leonor Jiménez, a reflection on urban transformation and the loss of identity through the story of a couple of digital nomads; and 'Reflejos de una habitación', by Ceres Machado, which explores the unexpected connection between an upper-class woman and a young male escort.
The Asserting Women's Rights awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday 19 March at the Albéniz Theatre with documentary filmmaker and coordinator of the section Mabel Lozano, who will present the awards before guests such as Francisco de la Torre, Mayor of Málaga; Francisco Cantos, Councillor for Social Rights, Diversity, Equality and Accessibility; Cristina Hernández, Director of the Women's Institute; and Juan Antonio Vigar, Director of the Festival de Málaga.
