Ana Lambarri presents 'Todo lo que no sé', a call to "feminine selfishness" and self-discovery
Susana Abaitua stars in the film, which comes to cinemas on 25 April
The director Ana Lambarri has presented her debut film 'Todo lo que no sé' in the Official Selection of the Festival de Málaga. The film is an appeal to "female selfishness", to learn to prioritise oneself and to give oneself permission to fail. The story follows a woman who is searching for her place and defending her right to discover who she is.
At a press conference, Lambarri explained that she undertook a search for characters who do not dare to say things and who are immersed in a series of conflicts. They are complex, multifaceted characters, characterised by a lack of communication. In addition to the director, the presentation in Malaga was attended by the producers Yadira Ávalos, David Torres and Carlos Guerrero; and, virtually, the actress Susana Abaitua.
In this way, the director embodies her personal concept of "feminine selfishness", which for her means prioritising oneself, choosing for and by oneself and experiencing "that feeling of being at ease when you decide your own things". Lambarri explained that she wanted to avoid good-natured figures in the construction of her main character: "The fact that you don't like her is because she has behaviours more associated with men and that can provoke us," she explained.
On the other hand, the filmmaker said that the film allows us to review how we discuss, how we talk and how we behave with our loved ones: "Many of the viewers will feel reflected in the characters, who face extreme and very violent situations, but full of truth."
The plot focuses on the life of Laura, played by Susana Abaitua, who at the age of 35 leads a very monotonous life. She helps her sick father, works in a shop, shares a flat and spends time with her on/off boyfriend. On the road to regaining a part of herself that she thought was lost, she makes a series of decisions that shake her surroundings, facing the price of prioritising herself. Abaitua heads the cast, which is completed by actors Francesco Carril, Natalia Huarte, and Stéphanie Magnin.
Regarding the filming, the director has used 360 sets so as not to have any limitations in the scenes. The aim was to allow the actors to move with a certain freedom. She says that this procedure allowed them to deal with emotions from a very realistic point of view. For this reason, the film is highly theatrical in essence. The idea is that the viewer does not have the feeling of watching a film, but that they are perceived as scenes from real life.
Todo lo que no sé' will hit Spanish cinemas on 25 April.
