Malaga City Council's summer cinema programme starts on 2 July and will run until 13 August in 18 venues
Cine Abierto, the summer cinema organised each year by
Malaga City Council through
Málaga Procultura in the 11 districts of the city, returns from 2 July to 13 August with 105 free screenings in 18 public spaces. Attended by thousands of people every year, these screenings have the collaboration of
"la Caixa" Foundation, sponsorship by
Cervezas Victoria,
Repsol and
Idealista and the participation of different
Malaga City Council departments, the
Public Agency for the Management of the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Birthplace and Other Museum and Cultural Facilities, Limposam and the
Historical Cemetery of San Miguel.
Cine Abierto returns to two iconic locations with special screenings: the
San Miguel Historical Cemetery and the
English Cemetery. The former will screen
Sirat (Oliver Laxe) and
Ghostlight (Kelly O'Sullivan and Alex Thompson) on 16 and 30 July respectively, and
La buena letra (Celia Rico) on 13 August; while the latter will screen
Bird (Andrea Arnold) on 9 July, all at 10:00 p.m.
The
‘Cine con firma’ series also returns to the
Eduardo Ocón Auditorium, with screenings in their original version with subtitles of
Anora (Sean Baker) on 29 July;
Emilia Pérez (Jacques Audiard);
Parthenope (Paolo Sorrentino); and
Flow (Gints Zilbalodis) on 5, 8 and 12 August. These sessions will take place at 10.15 pm.
Also at 10.15 pm, in the
Plaza de Tabacalera, in collaboration with the
Public Agency for the Management of the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Birthplace and Other Museum and Cultural Facilities, the
Spanish Cinema series is back, with eight screenings:
La infiltrada, by Arantxa Echevarría (3 July);
Los destellos, by Pilar Palomero (5 July);
Marco, by Aitor Arregi and Jon Garaño (8 July);
Sorda, by Eva Libertad (11 July);
Muy lejos, by Gerard Oms (19 July);
Una quinta portuguesa, by Avelina Prat (22 July);
El 47, by Marcel Barrena (25 July); and
Los Tortuga, by Belén Funes (2 August).
The
Albéniz Cinema will host its
Family Matinees at 11.00 am, with 31 screenings aimed at family audiences.
In addition to these series, there will be a general programme on beaches (with 26 screenings), in parks (22) and other venues, making a total of 18
spaces hosting Cine Abierto 2026:
- District 1 Centre: Albéniz Cinema, Eduardo Ocón Auditorium, Malagueta Beach, San Miguel Cemetery and English Cemetery.
- District 2. Malaga East: El Palo and Las Acacias beaches.
- District 3. Ciudad Jardín: Parque de la Alegría.
- District 4 Bailén Miraflores: Parque del Norte.
- District 5. Palma- Palmilla: Parque Martiricos.
- District 6. Cruz Humilladero: Parque San Rafael.
- District 7 Carretera de Cádiz: Parque del Oeste, Misericordia Beach and Plaza de Tabacalera.
- District 8. Churriana: Plaza de la Inmaculada.
- District 9. Campanillas: CEIP Francisco de Quevedo and CEIP Cayetano Bolívar.
- District 10. Puerto de la Torre: Municipal stand at the fairground.
- District 11. Teatinos – Universidad: Parque del Cine.
