Festival de Málaga to promote Spanish audiovisuals at Ventana Sur in Buenos Aires at the fourth edition of Spanish Screenings On Tour
The most important market in Latin America will host a day of activities to generate new business opportunities
Spanish Screenings on Tour will hold its fourth edition in Buenos Aires (Argentina) as part of Ventana Sur, which will take place from 1 to 5 December. Spanish Screenings on Tour, organised by the Festival de Málaga (Malaga City Council), aims to strengthen and generate new business opportunities for the Spanish audiovisual industry and its internationalisation. It carries out itinerant actions to encourage their sale and promotion in strategic territories.
The initiative is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) to strengthen Spain's role as Europe's audiovisual hub and is promoted by the Ministry of Culture through the ICAA and the Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service through ICEX Spain Export and Investment. Its cross-cutting themes are equality, diversity, transparency and sustainability.
Spanish Screenings on Tour 2022 was held at Ventana Sur (Buenos Aires, Argentina); in 2023, it took place at MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo (Rome) and in 2024 it travelled to the American Film Market (Las Vegas, USA).
Ventana Sur is the most important audiovisual content market in Latin America, a must on the agenda of international industry distributors and buyers. Since 2009, the event has been organised by the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA) in collaboration with the Marché du Film – Cannes Film Festival and for the 2024 edition, the Uruguayan Film and Audiovisual Agency (ACAU) joined its forces to organise the market in Uruguay for the first time.
The event returns to Argentina in 2025: Ventana Sur will take place from 1 to 5 December in Buenos Aires, marking a new stage, with the renewal of its brand and sections. Every year, the event welcomes more than 2,000 accredited visitors, including more than 150 buyers and sellers from all five continents, as well as representatives of the most important international chains and platforms. At the market, they can meet with content producers in business rounds, pitching sessions and one-to-one meetings; they have access to round tables, specific activities for producers with projects in development, workshops, talks and conferences on current and forward-looking topics.
Under the slogan 'Spanish Audiovisual: Creativity, Diversity and Success', Spanish Screenings on Tour 2025 will support the presence of the Spanish audiovisual industry in this strategic market. A unique opportunity to promote the internationalisation of Spanish audiovisuals in all genres and formats, and at different stages of development and production.
An intense day of work
The activities at Ventana Sur are concentrated in an intense working day designed for different profiles, which will take place on 4 December at the Palacio Libertad, Ventana Sur's headquarters.
It will begin at 10.00 am with a series of events, under the title 'Talent in Action. A perfect morning', which will include a meeting with the winning content creators of the last edition of Hack Málaga; and a meeting with some of our most important audiovisual industry companies (Latido Films, Filmax, Film Factory, Bendita Films, Begin Again, Sideral, Cinema Republic) who will present the Spanish cinema coming in 2026.
Afternoon sessions will begin following a networking cocktail, under the title 'Spain in co-production: an afternoon of creative exchange'. Journalist John Hopwell (Variety) will talk to María Luisa Gutiérrez, producer and founder of Bowfinger, about the way this company works, with its vast catalogue of productions that exceeds 40 titles, including the highest-grossing films in Spanish cinema, such as the sagas Padre no hay más que uno and A todo tren, record-breakers since 2019.
Next will be the activity 'Uniting creativities: co-produce with Spain', a case study of successful co-productions between Argentina and Spain, with the participation of María Luisa Gutiérrez (Bowfinger) and Agustín Bossi (Pampa Films). They will talk about how co-productions give access to new markets and audiences: strategies to achieve common goals, mutual benefits and successes.
Two simultaneous workshops will then be held, with Francisco Menéndez and Sidney Borjas, aimed at audiovisual projects selected in the different sections of Ventana Sur 2025. The goal is to offer a practical space for exchange where producers and creators can strengthen their knowledge of intellectual property and development strategies. Each workshop will feature five selected case studies that will serve as examples of best practices for the audience, fostering dialogue and understanding of new intellectual property legislation and rights, as well as tools for successful co-productions with Spain.
The day will end with the announcement of selected projects of the MAFF - Málaga Fund & Coproduction Event, a Festival de Málaga financing and co-production event. Guests will include Camilo Vázquez, Deputy Director General of Promotion and International Relations (ICAA); Ralph Haiek, Executive Director of Ventana Sur; and Juan Antonio Vigar, Director of the Festival de Málaga.
