Festival de Málaga tackles the relationship between technology, identity and critical thought in Neópolis
The section features artistic interventions and meetings that analyse the impact of artificial intelligence, digital identity and algorithmic biases
The Festival de Málaga (organised by Malaga City Council through Malaga Procultura) presents in its 29th edition a new instalment of its Neopolis section, a space where science, technology and audiovisual language converge, with the aim of promoting spaces for reflection on contemporary transformations and their influence on the human experience. Conceived as a space for reflection and experimentation, the initiative proposes artistic interventions and proposals for dialogue that put the public face-to-face with cultural, social and political challenges derived from the digital transformation.
Neópolis #4 includes three activities, all with free admission until full capacity is reached:
Neópolis #4.1 – The agent web. The machine decides, the human assumes opens the programme with an audiovisual and sound installation by La Casa Amarilla, part of the SOS-LCAmálaga project. The proposal is presented as an immersive environment that examines the scope of artificial intelligence systems capable of autonomously executing tasks and acting on behalf of users.
By analysing mass data mining, deep learning and the consolidation of business models based on neural networks, the activity proposes a sensory journey that allows us to observe how these systems intervene in decision-making processes, information consumption and the configuration of the digital environment.
The installation can be visited from 9 to 11 March, from 19:30 to 21:00, at Promálaga Casa de Socorro (Plaza de la Trinidad, 12).
On Monday 9 March at 18:30, the space will also host the Neópolis Dialogue #4.1 with César Rendueles, on his essay 'Empty networks. Catastrophic technology and the end of democracy', generating a theoretical framework complementary to the artistic intervention.
Neopolis #4.2 – We are all you. Exposed intimacy, identity and mimesis, developed by Kansas Anymore , focuses on the processes of constructing identity in digital environments. The intervention proposes an experience that examines the exposure of privacy, the reproduction of visual and behavioural patterns and imitation mechanism that operate in networks and platforms.
Using visual and technological resources, the activity addresses the way in which the personal image circulates, transforms and becomes data, as well as the dynamics of recognition and replication that shape contemporary digital presence. The proposal can be visited from 9 to 11 March at MIMMA - Palacio Conde de las Navas (C/ Beatas, 15). Monday 9, from 10:00 to 13.30; Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11, from 10:00 to 19:00.
Neopolis #4.3 – Cognitive biases. Say silence, a sound installation conceived by Eugenio Rivas, focuses on the processes of perception and repetition involved in forming collective opinions and behaviour. With a sound composition designed specifically for the space of the San Miguel Cemetery Chapel (Plaza del Patrocinio), the intervention explores how algorithms, automatisms and recommendation dynamics influence the configuration of thought.
The piece proposes a sensory approach to the notion of cognitive bias and the way in which certain technological structures can reinforce pre-existing patterns. The installation will be open from 10 to 12 March, from 8:30 to 12:00 and from 18:30 to 20:00. In the same space, a colloquium with Marta González-Moro will take place on Thursday 12 at 18:30 .
With this series of activities, Neópolis consolidates its approach as a space of convergence between contemporary creation, technological research and critical thinking. The programme places the relationship between machine and human being, the sustainability of the human in digitalised environments and the cultural frameworks that emerge from the development of new technologies at the centre of the debate.
