Cinema Cocina is back at the Festival de Málaga with nine screening exploring haute cuisine, territory and trades
This time, the section is accompanied by Vinomascope, the food and wine route that this year will bring together more than 40 of the city's establishments
The Festival of Málaga will once again host a new edition of Cinema Cocina, the section that brings together cinema and gastronomy to highlight culinary culture. In this ninth edition, the programme will include nine screenings that will address issues such as the relationship between cuisine and territory, the transference of trades, sustainability and the evolution of haute cuisine, by means of stories featuring chefs, producers and spaces where food has become identity.
Beyond the screenings, the programme also includes colloquiums with the film crews and tastings related to the products and dishes that appear in the films, creating a dialogue between cinema and cuisine that has become one of the hallmarks of this section of the Festival.
The sessions will take place between Saturday 7 March and Friday 13 March at the Echegaray Theatre. The programme, organised by the Festival de Málaga and Lumen Projects Gastronómicos, with the sponsorship of Alimentos de España and Cervezas Victoria and the collaboration of Bodegas Emilio Moro and Diputación de Jaén, will include four feature films and three short films in the Official Competition, as well as two screenings outside the competition.
In the Official Feature Film Section will compete Todos los días domingo, by Abraham López Feria, which reflects on the disappearance of the trades linked to the almadrabas and the artisanal production of mojama on the coast of Huelva; La sombra del nogal, by Manuel García Gil, focusing on the demands of haute cuisine in an isolated rural environment; Cerrando el círculo, by Sonia Ziadi Trives and Víctor García Garrido, which traces the life and professional reconstruction of chef Daniel Ochoa from the perspective of sustainability and his roots in the territory; and Decía que aquí no había ná, by Jorge Fernández Mayora, a story about the gastronomic transformation of Jaén and its cultural and social impact.
The following productions will be screened In the Official Short Films Section: Montse. La penúltima bodega (Montse. The last winery), which portrays the resilience of a historic gastronomic space in Barcelona's Raval neighbourhood; Piedra a piedra (Stone by stone), which focuses on the history of the Bodegas El Grifo winery in Lanzarote and its adaptation to a volcanic landscape; and Koldo by Pedro Peira, dedicated to the career of the Navarrese chef Koldo Rodero and the evolution of his family restaurant.
Outside the competition, you will be able to see
Tetsu, Txispa, Hoshi by Jon Arregui, a portrait of chef Tetsuro Maeda and his restaurant in the valley of Atxondo; and
Uno de los nuestros. Legado Joan Roca (One of ours. The Joan Roca Legacy) by Jorge Fernández Mayoral and Virginia Jönas Urigüen, a collective tribute to the Catalan chef through a unique dinner that brings together some of the most influential chefs on the national scene.
With this new edition, Cinema Cocina reaffirms its role as a meeting point between cinema and gastronomy within the Festival de Málaga.
The highlight of the section will be the traditional
Gala Cinema Cocina at the Gran Hotel Miramar, where the awards of this ninth edition will be announced, which will take place on Thursday 12 March. The evening will bring together institutional representatives, professionals from the gastronomic sector and participants in the section in an event that will combine the presentation of the awards with a cocktail reception and a tasting menu prepared by seven Michelin-starred chefs, who are participating in the section with their audiovisual projects.
Vinomascope: wines and snacks around the city
Together with Cinema Cocina, the Festival de Málaga will once again promote
Vinomascope, the food and wine route that connects the event with the city's hotels and restaurants. In its sixth edition, between 6 and 15 March, the event will bring together 41 of Malaga’s establishments and 25 wineries.
Under the format
Vinos & Bocados (Wines & Snacks), the initiative invites participants to explore different neighbourhoods of Malaga sampling tapas specially prepared for the occasion and paired with wines from the province, from the Malaga and Sierras de Malaga appellations. The route combines traditional recipes with more innovative offerings, showcasing the great diversity of the local cuisine.
Vinomascope is organised by the Festival de Málaga and Lumen Producciones Gastronómicas, with the collaboration of the Málaga Provincial Council, through Sabor a Málaga.
All the information about participating establishments, tapas and wines on the route can be found on the website
