Los Nadadores (The Swimmers), by Sol Iglesias SK, opens the Zonazine section of the 29th Festival de Málaga
The co-production between Argentina, Mexico and the US was screened at the Cine Albéniz in the presence of its director and part of the artistic and technical team

The film Los Nadadores, directed by Sol Iglesias SK, opened the Zonazine section of the 29th Festival de Málaga today. The screening took place in Hall 3 of the Albéniz Cinema, as part of one of the sections of the festival dedicated to the most daring proposals and new approaches to contemporary cinema.

Following the screening, the film crew took part in a press conference attended by Sol Iglesias SK, director; Martin Szereszevsky, producer; Valentina D'Emilio, actress and producer; Joaquín Fretes, actor; Olivia Schachtel, art director, and Sofía Lizzoli, director of photography.

The director, Sol Iglesias SK, explained that the project began to take shape in 2022, when the apocalyptic dimension of the story still seemed far off. "As the filming drew nearer, that feeling started to become more and more real. Something like the end of the world began to loom in Argentina", said the creator.

The film's producer, Martín Szereszevsky, explained that the Festival de Málaga will host the world premiere of the film: "We have more festivals confirmed, but we can't reveal them yet". He also recalled that the project received a significant boost at the Guadalajara Festival: "There we presented the idea for the film and we obtained funding that allowed us to finish it".

For her part, director of photography, Sofía Lizzoli, emphasised the importance of light and the sensation of warmth in the visual construction of the film. "The sun is strongly present in the story. Sometimes we had cloudy days and we played with the colour in post-production so that everything was unified. It was very important to feel the warmth and to generate the right texture," Lizzoli said.

Meanwhile, actress and producer Valentina D'Emilio reflected on the generational background of the film: "Human beings are revolutionary by nature, although perhaps less so now. We are a somewhat apathetic youth because the future is uncertain.

Los Nadadores is a co-production between Argentina, Mexico and the US that marks the feature debut of Sol Iglesias SK. The film presents a universe that blends everyday life with fantastic elements and focuses on a group of young people facing extreme weather conditions.

Sol Iglesias SK (Argentina, 2001) is an artist trained as a director at the Universidad del Cine. She has made six short films written by herself, developing a cinematographic universe in which different characters cross paths throughout her works, each time with a tone closer to fantasy, where the revolutionary coexists with the irrationality of fantasy.

In addition to directing, she is a poet, graphic designer and visual artist. Los Nadadores is her feature debut.
