The Festival de Málaga hosts the national premiere of 'Día de caza' in the Official Out of Competition section
Director Pedro Aguilera was accompanied by actresses Rossy de Palma, Blanca Portillo, Carmen Machi, and Zoé Arnao at the presentation of this remake of Carlos Saura’s film 'La caza’ (The Hunt)
Director Pedro Aguilera presented his new film ‘Día de caza’, at a press conference today. The film had its national premiere at the 29th Festival de Málaga, screening in the Official Out of Competition section.
The film stars Carmen Machi, Blanca Portillo, Rossy de Palma, and Zoé Arnao, who lead an ensemble cast in this story that unfolds during a hunting trip on an isolated estate. Conversations and memories of the past gradually raise the tension, bringing latent conflicts between the protagonists to the surface.
The actresses joined the director at a press conference, which also included co-writer Lola Mayo, producer Jaime Gona, cinematographer Eva Díaz, and film editor Clara Martínez.
The film, a co-production between Spain and France, offers a contemporary take on Carlos Saura's classic ‘La caza’ (The Hunt) (1966), transposing the original conflict to a world populated by women and exploring the personal, social, and generational tensions that emerge during a seemingly peaceful gathering of friends.
During the press conference, director Pedro Aguilera explained that the project began as a cinematic experiment with different working processes, noting that remakes have been relatively uncommon in Spanish cinema, and this project introduced a new approach to filmmaking.
For her part, Lola Mayo, co-writer of the film, emphasised the importance of maintaining a connection with Saura's story and ensuring it can be told today. She agreed with the director that the text and themes of the revisited film remain relevant and increasingly current.
The lead actresses highlighted the intensity of the project and the interpretive weight of a story built around male characters in Carlos Saura's original version.
Rossy de Palma, present this morning at the unveiling of the monolith that the Festival dedicated to the actress as a tribute to her career, emphasised the role of her colleagues in envisioning a world increasingly offering opportunities to women based on their qualities.
The renowned actresses also focused on the young actress Zoé Arnao, who considered it a privilege to have the opportunity to learn from them both professionally and personally.
