The Festival de Málaga premieres ‘Solos’, Guillermo Ríos’ feature film that delves into loneliness and the need to connect with oneself
The Official Out of Competition section hosted the screening and subsequent discussion with the director and lead actors Salva Reina, Kira Miró, Elia Galera, and Carlos Santos
The film ‘Solos’, an audiovisual adaptation of Paloma Bravo’s novel of the same name, directed by Guillermo Ríos, was screened at the 29th Festival de Málaga as part of the Official Out of Competition section, where it had its national premiere.
Following the screening, a discussion was held with the audience featuring the director and actors Salva Reina, Kira Miró, Elia Galera, and Carlos Santos, as well as producers Eduardo Campoy and Adolfo Blanco.
The film crew received a warm welcome from the audience, creating an atmosphere that enabled them to delve deeper into the key themes of a story that reflects on loneliness, human relationships, and the need for connection in a contemporary context.
"It's a drama with a lot of ironic comedy, but above all, it's a journey that unfolds in a setting of healing, friendship, strengthening bonds, and bringing all our shadows to light", the director stated about a film born from the desire to portray the different forms of loneliness that permeate today's society.
The filmmaker spoke about this self-analysis in which one questions everything, how to confront loneliness, and the importance of embracing it despite the fear it generates—something he has tried to capture on the big screen through his characters.
For his part, Salva Reina emphasised that although each of the characters lives in a certain solitude, the film is a celebration of friendship and the family formed among friends, which is often stronger than real family.
Elia Galera admitted to feeling emotional after watching the film, as it reflects a fairly representative generation. She also confessed to having a strong emotional connection with her character, which motivated her to focus on the desire to live and the urgency of doing so.
