‘Por cien millones’, the re-enactment of the kidnapping of Enrique Castro 'Quini', at the Festival de Málaga
The series premiere was attended by its director, Nacho G. Velilla, and actors Gabriel Guevara, Vito Sanz, and Agustín Otón
The Festival de Málaga hosted the presentation of Por cien millones, this Sunday 8 March. The series blends comedy and drama to tell the story of the kidnapping of striker Enrique Castro 'Quini.' The series was screened at the Albéniz cinema and forms part of the Series Out of Competition section.
Director Nacho G. Velilla, producer Fran Araújo, and actors Gabriel Guevara, Vito Sanz, and Agustín Otón presented the series and participated in a Q&A session afterwards, answering questions from the audience who attended the screening of two episodes.
Velilla confessed that this series was a commitment “to absolute truthfulness,” since he knows the streets where the story unfolded like the back of his hand. Therefore, he wanted to respect the reality of the kidnapping at all times.
For his part, Sanz maintained that the use of comedy leads some to think that the portrayal of conflicts is lessened, but that in rehearsals they tried to preserve the tension of the event through its more farcical aspects.
The youngest member of the cast, Guevara, explained that for this role he had to completely change his acting style and shed the characters he had played until now. In a moment of rapport with the audience, he even dared to ask if they thought he looked good in his new role as a kidnapper.
Otón, in the role of Quini, believes that the “beautiful” aspect of this series is the contrast between the kidnappers and the kidnapped man, and that his biggest challenge was to resemble him as closely as possible, since he was a real person.
This series is set in 1981, when three mechanics from Zaragoza, Alfonso, Jorge, and Gabi, overwhelmed by debt and after months of unemployment, decide to kidnap the league's top scorer, Enrique Castro "Quini." In exchange for his release, they demand 100 million pesetas. But they soon discover, the hard way, that life isn't like the movies. And that being bad, when you're good, isn't easy at all.
The complete miniseries, consisting of three 50-minute episodes, will arrive on the Movistar Plus+ platform on Thursday, 26 March.
