Millennial Mal (Millenium Malaise), a comedy ode to Generation Z at the Festival de Málaga
The work by Lorena Iglesias was presented at the Echegaray Theatre as part of the Out of Competition Series section.

The Festival de Málaga hosted the presentation of Millennial mal, a comedy series starring and directed by Lorena Iglesias, on Monday 9th March. The Albéniz Cinema was the venue this afternoon for the screening of two films as part of the Out of Competition Series section.

Present at the colloquium following the presentation were the directors Lorena Iglesias and Andrea Jaurrieta, the actresses Paula Gala, Victoria Oliver and Isa Calderón, the actor Vito Sanz and the producer Mariela Besuievsky.

For Iglesias, this series was born out of "envy of generation Z". He confesses that he often thinks about what the youth of his generation would be like now that there are "so many freedoms". Likewise, the comedy genre, he said, has allowed him to talk about deep issues in a "light-hearted way".

For her part, Jaurrieta, co-director of the series, agrees that if she had to recall an important moment, it would be being behind the camera while her directing partner was acting.

Regarding the production company, Besuievsky says that the whole process was "very liberating" and that learning with them was a fun process throughout the project, from the moment they discovered Lorena.

The actors present agreed that the filming was fun. Gala and Oliver were in charge of ensuring their characters helped the main character in her process of adapting to the Z generation. Both agree that they see themselves represented and are very excited to see their work.

For his part, Sanz acknowledges that he has been in a "mid-life crisis" for some time and that there was something in the script that made him think about where one is in one's life at any given moment. Meanwhile, Calderón, who has a background in comedy, was encouraged by the directors to be herself during filming.

The main character of this story is Judith, a 42-year-old unemployed librarian who has to go back to university to collect a grant awarded to her because of a bureaucratic error. To hide her age, she undergoes a makeover with the help of two twenty-something women, which will lead her to end up believing she is her own character.

With this premise, Iglesias presents this Filmin original exclusively at the Festival de Málaga, which will be available on the streaming platform later this year.
