Il ragazzo dai pantaloni rosa, a touching story about how far words can affect people
After its success in Italy, this drama, based on real events, comes to the Festival de Málaga with its screening in the Mosaic section: International Panorama
The producer and scriptwriter Roberto Proia arrives at the 29th edition of the Festival de Málaga, specifically in the Mosaic Section: Panorama International, with Il ragazzo dai pantaloni rosa, the second feature film by director Margherita Ferri. It is a powerful testimony about adolescence and a mother's struggle against the bullying received by her son.
This Italian film, the highest grossing film of the year in Italy, is based on real events. After the screening, Proia said that "without the generosity of Teresa Manes, the mother, they would not have a film". He reveals that this project required "a very high level of commitment".
As a producer, Proia reveals that he did not want to make a "very artistic film" and that he needed a very broad view of the subject. He also observed that the greatest impact has been among young people and says that it has been like opening "a pandora's box". He thinks this film can be a "tool" for schools.
This feature film follows the story of Andrea Spezzacatena (played by Samuele Carrino), a 15-year-old boy who took his own life in 2012 after being bullied and cyber-bullied by his secondary school classmates. Some red trousers faded by mistake were the trigger for the incident.
The film, which shows the first recognised case in Italy of a minor committing suicide because of bullying, is an adaptation of the autobiographical novel Andrea oltre il ragazzo dai pantaloni rosa, written by the young man's mother, Teresa Manes (played on screen by Claudia Pandolfi).
"Appreciation for Andrea's life is the maxim of this play, where, despite the immense pain of bullying and loss, the focus during its development was on adolescent vulnerability, the mother-child relationship and first love," explained Proia.
Following its screening at the Festival de Málaga, the feature film will to be released in Spanish cinemas on 17 April.
