David Ilundáin presents Mallorca confidencial at the Festival de Málaga
This social thriller set in Mallorca in 2007 delves into a story starring Lolita Flores and Asia Ortega

The director David Ilundáin presented his latest feature film Mallorca confidencial (Confidential Mallorca) at the 29th Festival de Málaga, where it has been included in the Official Out of Competition section. According to the filmmaker, the film, set in 2007, is somewhere between a social thriller and film about small time delinquency.

After the screening, the audience took part in a colloquium with the filmmaker, leading actresses Lolita Flores and Asia Ortega, as well as Elena Furiase, Lorca Prada, and the producer Valerie Delpierre. During the meeting, the filmmaker and the cast shared their impressions of the creative process, the social portrait of the film and the interpretative challenges of filming.

Mallorca confidencial delves into a story marked by social tensions, silences and personal decisions that can change the course of a life. Set on the island of Mallorca, the film explores the complexities of a community rife with secrets and conflicts, following several characters who must confront their own pasts and the pressures of their surroundings, with drug trafficking as a vehicle. Through a close and humane look, the film proposes a story about identity, belonging and the courage needed to make decisions that challenge what is established.

During the colloquium, Lolita Flores spoke about the construction of her character and how her own life experience allowed her to better understand the way a gypsy woman acts and feels. The actress, who plays a matriarch, also recalled the racism the Roma people have historically suffered, and which, as she pointed out, still persists in many areas, while proudly claiming her surname and the cultural legacy it represents. She also shared with the audience the process of learning the Mallorcan dialect she underwent to prepare for her role, a job she described as one of the most stimulating challenges of the filming.

For her part, Asia Ortega underlined the emotional component of the story, stressing that the film is essentially a story about personal courage and the ability to choose one's own path even when circumstances seem to dictate otherwise. The actress emphasised that the film invites the viewer to reflect on the decisions that define each person's identity and the importance of embracing them with conviction.
