The Picasso Museum Malaga today hosted the screening of the documentary film Manuel Alcántara. A life in 15 rounds, directed by Manu Sánchez and Leticia Moreno, as part of the Documentaries Special Sessions of the Festival de Málaga, organised by Malaga City Council through Malaga Procultura.

The presentation of the film brought together various authorities and institutional representatives at the Picasso Museum, including the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre; the President of the Málaga Provincial Council, Francisco Salado; the Vice-President and Deputy Delegate for Culture of the Málaga Provincial Council, Manuel López Mestanza; the Deputy Director of RTVA, Isabel Cabrera; the President of the Board of Directors of RTVA, Rafael Porras; the Director of the Board of Directors of RTVA, María Victoria Romero; the Director of Cultural Activities of the Unicaja Foundation, José María Luna; and the daughter of the poet Manuel Alcántara, Lola Alcántara.

The film offers a collective portrait of the Malaga poet and journalist Manuel Alcántara, one of the most outstanding voices in contemporary Spanish literature and journalism. Through fifteen stages that cover different moments of his life, the documentary revisits his childhood, Madrid's bohemian life, his intense journalistic career, his passion for boxing and his return to the sea in Malaga, forming a tribute to his free gaze, precise words and unique way of turning the everyday into literature.

The work includes the participation of numerous personalities from the cultural and journalistic spheres who shared a friendship or intellectual affinity with Alcántara, among them: José Luis Garci, Teodoro León Gross, Juan Manuel de Prada, Rosa Belmonte, Eduardo Torres-Dulce, Luis Alberto de Cuenca, Luis García Montero, Concha Bermejo, Rafael Porras, Juan López Cohard and Manolo Castillo, and his daughter Lola Alcántara, among others.

During the ceremony, Rafael López, production director of the documentary and assistant director of the production company 16 Escalones, thanked the institutional support that made the project possible, and explained that he had come on behalf of the director Manu Sánchez, who was unable to attend for personal reasons.

"First of all, I would like to thank everyone for coming and extend my thanks to those who have made this documentary possible: the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre; the President of the Provincial Council, Francisco Salado; José María Luna, from the Unicaja Foundation; and Canal Sur, one of the great supporters of the project, with its deputy director Isabel Cabrera and the President of the Board of Directors, Rafael Porras," he said.

López also emphasised the personal dimension of the experience of filming the documentary. "It has been a very gratifying experience to be able to get to know Manuel Alcántara, a reference in journalism and literature. I couldn't be happier with the result we have achieved," he concluded.

With Manuel Alcántara. A life in 15 rounds, the Festival de Málaga celebrates the memory of one of the great chroniclers of everyday life, and pays tribute to a key figure in Spanish culture, whose work continues to be a reference for several generations of readers and journalists.
